FWIW, I have used MelaFix and PimaFix for my lined puffer when he got tore up from the inlet tube on a powerhead. For a week or so, the wound was swollen and nasty. I used both Melafix and Pimafix (in my reef tank with no ill effects) and it was healed up within 4 days. I don't know why so many mods here hate the stuff, but it's all natural and does a great job. BTW-insanity is defined by doing the same thing over and over, but expecting a different outcome.

Thanks....I don't think you can use it on horses....I have both though cause I use them on my FW tanks

Melafix irritates the seahorse's closed gill system and can prevent them from getting adequite oxygen.
Meowzer, do you have Neomycin? It would probably be a good idea to start Neomycin in addition to the Furan-2. Dose at 40mg per gallon for 10 days. When the Furan-2 is done in 2 days, you can start with Triple Sulfa (according to package instructions) for 10 days also. Triple Sulfa has a synergystic effect with Neomycin, but you don't want to use all 3 at once.

The main reason MelaFix and PimaFix are not recommended for seahorses is both products reduce the oxygen in the water. Something seahorses CANNOT tolerate at all. The second reason, and probably most important, is when they were independently tested on a few common seahorse diseases/bacteria, they were not effective in stopping anything from reproducing in culture.
The products may be a great natural, therapeutic "boost" to help some fish recover from certain ailments, but neither product is a medicine. In many instances, actual medicine is the only hope some fish have for recovery.

Oh shoot! Yes! Do the 50% water changes. I knew I forgot something. Dose at 40mg per gallon the first day. Each day after, do a 50% water change and then replace the meds in ratio (so add back half of what you dosed the first day).

OK...I have been doing the 50% w/c's every day...so tomorrow I will add 40mg of the neomycin..after the w/c (obviously) so if I change 5G of water I dose 200mg????

from reading what ann wrote, I take it this way.
you have a 10 gal tank right? 40 mg per gal so 400 mg the first day
then the next day you take out 5 gal of water, put 5 gal back and 200 mg of meds. repeat this everyday for 10 days.
