Cigar Time

Found a new fave. There is a local store I found that has a person sitting in the front rolling fresh cigars all day. Can't beat a fresh hand rolled smoke.

Well, since this thread has started I have been slowly working my way through all the Rocky Patels that my local cigar lounge has. So far my favs are the 1990 and 1992. The Sungrown are also fantastic and over the last few days I've also had 2 of his Edge series, both also very good. These are all in the $6-$10 range each. I am really enjoying the cigars but I just can not see myself spending more than that on a smoke on a regular basis. They have a Rocky Patel Old World Reserve for about $18 but the guy at the shop says that he didnt think it was really that much better than the 1992 which sells for $9.50

I went to a golf outing a few years ago that had a couple of guys handrolling for all the people playing. That was a GREAT smoke!!!

really shogun? maybe you found a good roller using good tobacco, but from my handful of fresh rolled cigar experiences, they are mediocre at best.

well here are some new additions

i have been on the hunt recently for some good everyday "cheapos" that are still consistantly a great smoke.
pictured above left to right:
2 x Sancho Panza torpedos ~$3.50
1 x Don Peppin ~ $7. Don Peppin makes the tobacco and rolls the stoags for Tatuaje, which i already give the seal of approval to!
4 x Coronado by La Flor. ~$4. i think this is a relative newcomer, i smoked on sunday and i was VERY impressed!
i went out looking for the new brand of maduro by Hoyo De Monterrey, called Dark Sumatra. the Ebano size is rated at a 90 in the affish, and is priced at around $4.50. it has eluded me this time out, but my sites have been set.

The shop is owned by a Cuban guy and he seems to have a good deal of family history in the business. I really enjoyed them.
You know, I tried a Sancho Panza Sampler a couple months back and I was quite impressed with them as well.

well, i still haven't smoked either of those cigars i was sooooo looking forward to. and visiting the e.n.t. twice, the verdict is that my tonsils have to come out. and at 31, i'm not looking forward to the recovery period of being laid up for possible 2 weeks. after i recover, i assure you, that saltnoob and i will thoroughly evaluate those cigars. and probably a few others as well.
but for the time being, no more smoking for me........

Sorry to hear of your upcoming surgery. I think it is a sign that you should definately ship the cigars to Tangman99 and me so we can evaluate them. It is the right thing to do.

you know, it's funny you should mention that, but due to time constraints, and the fact that my surgery isn't going to happen until 11/7, i have decided that there will be plenty of time THIS WEEKEND to try them

well, saltnoob and i smoked the 2 cigars.......
i was somewhat disappointed with the macanudo. i now they're mild, but this was like smoking a marlboro ulta lite. the 1st 1" or so was fair at best. slowly it opened up to a slight leathery taste. but that was it. it turned on my with about 1.5" left.
for such a highly touted cigar, i was left wanting more........
here's saltnoob's take on the padron: i liked it. but something was lacking from it. nice spicey flavor, full body, but there had to be another reason why they weren't boxed. i just can't pinpoint it.
nonetheless.
