Critique my tank-sump design…

Just curious, because you don't see a major flow improvement with the 1.5" over an 1 1/4"......some, but not major. It will work fine though.....with your pump choice you should be good a little fine tuning.

Hey the tank looks sharp. How does the water return back into the tank? You could build a stand out of some acrylic pieces or even out of egg crate...basically just need to make a shelf that sits on top of a couple of support legs so to speak.

The baffle on the right will be dry and I will plume a 1" or 1-1/2" PVC line to come up and over and to change to a 3/4" lock line y, with two heads. I have not decided whether to go 1/2" heads or 3/4"

I wanted to go up and over the baffle because the water surface level is yet to be determined and the lock lines coming down will give me freedom to set the siphon brake.

Or KISS might just go black PVC all the way

I like the loc-line stuff just because it gives you flexibility to change out different heads or use a combination of different nozzles. I installed a 3/4 Y that reduces to two 1/2" heads. It should help stir things up a bit. What I did is use a combination of nozzles...on each branch there is a head that shoots down into the tank and then in the middle I have the side spray nozzles to help with surface aggitation...they will also function as a syphon break when the pump goes off as they are set at the waters surface.

The carpet is in but like I have said before I am lazy

I did find a small sump that will fit my skimmer and return pump and I did get most of the parts to plum it I just need to find the time. I also want to water proof the stand on the inside with something like a truck bed liner paint.

I was going to move the stand and tank this weekend and set it up, but work needs me this saturday so we will see how much I can get done. I hope to move it and water proof it

Interesting build - just tagging along.

FYI multiple coats of a polyurathean ("sp", sorry I suck at spelling) will be just as waterproof as truckbed liner - although the truckbed liner may actually last longer.

Just throwing a thought out here...I used a porcelain white Urethane Enamel paint on the ******** of my stand in order to waterproof it. It's U.V. resistant and extremely durable. It's used for a variety marine applications as well as paint for cars and motorcycles. The claim is that is second only to powder coating for it's durability. I did 4 coats and am very happy with the finish. It's like the inside of the stand is covered in glass. It's a little bit pricey though. It's about $100 for a gallon of the paint and a quart of the hardner. Well worth it though IMO. Also have to apply it with Mohair roller covers because it will eat right through any other kind of roller cover. Just an idea.
