Critique my tank-sump design…

There was lots of air bubble splashing casting salt creep all over so I changed the end pipe some.

This is my starting idea, I put this on the overflow pipe.

Here the bubbles just moved to the top of the pipe.

So I shortened it and put a 180 bend on. Very little splashing now...

I moved the skimmer stand up and now have some adjustment tolerance to set the skimmer. Seems to work for now.

I like to take the top off when working in side I put one of my LEDs strips here.

The rest of my lighting makes lots of heat so I need some type of fan setup and will hook my chiller up if need, thoughts.
In a year or so I plan to ditch the MH and go LEDs all the way.

First little vent idea does not do much but I can feel the heat coming out the gap.

The rubber spacer

Look at my goo

Very nice work!!!!!!! That's a good looking skimmer if I must say so.....
Why not drill the top and put a cooling fan exhausting the air, to try to cool it down????

I think I will put some fans in the canopy and in the cabinet. Do you run a chiller on your tanks with sumps? I really don't want to install my chiller I would be under the house once more boo

Do you have some sort of glass to protect the bulb from the tank? I used retro fit and in a year the moisture caused a short. Everything looks beautiful, but you will have to install a fan to cool things or run a cooler, that little vent isn't much help.

Honestly there really isn't any need for a glass shield. With returns properly positioned shouldn't be any spray or splattering. Plus extra maintenance as far as keeping the lens clean. It would cut down on penetration with a dirty neglected lens. I think most bulb shatterings actually happen due to user error.

I wasn't talking about a busted bulb, although I had that happen when I was topping off and one tiny drop of water hit the hot bulb...The system shorted out after a year. I was told it was because of the moisure from the tank, no water touched my lights at all, it was more than high enough. It was on the same line as not having a TV above the tank.

Sorry Flower.....I could understand the issue with the TV but a lighting system designer knows the condition it's product will encounter....Sounds like just poor connections allowing the humidty to create havoc with the lighting system.....All connects should be water tight quality.
