DAYTONA 500...predictions?

I did not like harvick at first. But you have to hand it stepping into Earnhardt's team and winning the first race, WOW. Anyway he had a bad attitude when he started, but I think he had mellowed some and I like seeing him interviewed now. His pit board is pretty cool!
I can see what you are saying about Kyle. Maybe he should move up to Nascar ambassador and let someone else drive.
Multi million dollar teams with umpteen checklists and checklists for the checklists and some outside contractor blows it all to H#!!. They say all the lifters are from one shop, so one bad batch messes up everybody.
RU, Carl is a good guy who I wouldn't mind see win. He is actually from the town in MO that I used to live in. I swear though if he wins Daytona he will not be doing a flip. He is going to belly flop it on the grass.

Spider, Tell 'em I will take the seats out of my 95 Aerostar and I can pick the engines up tonight and drive nonstop to deliver the engines. Unless the engine in my van let's go.

Kurt Bush and Carl Edwards!!! Edwards was a great dirt driver, but he has never been pursued by an F1 team, Smoke has, that's as high a compliment as a Nascar driver can get IMO.

NASCAR is a lot like hockey. If you dont follow it close enough to understand all the rules/stratigies you only watch for the fights/wrecks.

I'll leave Harvick alone, out of respect for other fans, other than to say, I also liked him alot at first, like you said, seeing what he did moving into E's team. But after that, he seem to have a smartA.. mouth everytime they interviewed him after a wreck or bump.
Kyle...that's exactly what he should do. And you know, there was one or two races last year that he announced and I thought he was really good at it. As far as racing, there are so many other, eager, drivers out there. I say step aside and kick start the sport again with one of these young aggressive drivers.

That's why I like Harvick so much, he was a perfect fill for Big E. Like Sr. was any different after one of his wrecks? Earnhardt may have been a bit wiser then Harvick and not gotten into as many physical confrontations as Harvick, but I'll chalk that up to different upbringings. That said, Harvick definitely has wised up in his time. Plus, if you ever go to a race, Harvick's also probably the best guy to listen on the race scanner, he's a blast.
As for Kyle, yes, I can't wait for him to be in the booth over DW. I'm growing real tired of Waltrip boosting about whatever sponsor is pushing him all race long (mostly the Crapyota's)...

Your right, I forgot about Kyle announcing. He was good! He could replace "The mouth from the south" (DW) Please don't let Rusty Wallce announe either. Not a fan of his.
Reef, You are right. If you don't watch racing then it is just a bunch of cars going around in a circle. Once you know the drivers then it is not the #5 car racing, it is the "talented yet whiny brat who you hopes drops a cylinder" racing.
T3, with the engine problems you still think Jr. will win?

I don't know Scotts. I really don't know the full story, but with as much $ as Hendrick has, I'm sure they have 20 more engines ready to go. To be honest with you though, I'm totally confused on some of the races. Like this engine issue article I read said that this will put all the Hendrick cars at the back of the pack on FRIDAY. This is the duals? What does this have to do with Sunday's 500? Or are they talking about the dual qualifying for the 500 (I thought they already qualified, hello). This is where I would be more knowledgable if I followed it day/night, but I don't. Maybe SpiderWoman can explain some of this.

I absolutley HATE the way they qualify for Daytona, especially with plate racing and now ESPECIALLY with the stupid top 35 in points locked in. I think the only positions that are set are Jimmie Johnson and Michael Waltrip. Becausse they qualified as 1 and 2. Then the rest have to race in for the duals, except for those that are in the top 35 of points from last year.
As far as the engines they are allowed a seap between the duals and the race.
The engine swaps will send those Chevrolets to the back of the field in their 150-mile qualifying races Thursday, which will help set the starting lineup for the Daytona 500. The engine change does not affect Jimmie Johnson's pole position for Sunday's Daytona 500, in that teams are allowed an engine change between the 150s and the Daytona 500.
In addition, four Toyotas changed engines or engine parts because of similar problems with the lifters (cylindrical parts that rest against the lobes of a camshaft and cause valves to open and close as the camshaft rotates). The drivers affected are Denny Hamlin, A.J. Allmendinger, J.J. Yeley and Tony Stewart, all of whom must start from the rear Thursday
Starting from the back does not matter though. Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte and Johnny B. used to drop back to the back of the pack and hang around there for 150 laps, then start racing with 50 to go.

I was reading up on it some more. That is a screwed up way to set the field for the Daytona 500. You are right, only Johnson & Waltrip are locked into their positions. An article I was reading this morning was quoting Sterling Marlin, and he is on fire about the whole process. He probably won't even make the race, especially if his Hendrick motor blows up today in the 150. Dale Jarrett is not a guarantee either.

Mark Martin is just one of those good guys, kinda of like Darrell Jarrett, that you just can't find a reason not to like him. Isn't Mark doing like a 1/2 year this season, or something (semi-retiring). I don't think anyone would be dissappointed to see him win the 500.
I've got a reason, he is driving the 8!
