Tomorrow will probably be best. I need to clean up the new one a bit before anyone sees it. And tonight I have to go get a new heater for the new tank, so I don't fry the fish....again.

Ok so I got the new tank and I have no idea about the equipment. The filter is this big canister thingy ma bob and it has an in and an out. It sits on the floor outside the tank. There is no back compartments so the heater and the in and outtake are right in the tank...
anywho, what kind of filter is it?...I forgot to look at the name before I left this morning for work.
and any maintenance tips would be much appreciated.
PS in my stupor this weekend at VT graduation I lost my camera....anyone getting rid of an old one????

It was awesome!
The weather was perfect the whole time and I went to some shows, ate some grub, and laid on the beach all day.

Also, I think I need to get a new bulb for the tank, he said it needed a new actinic. How much would I pay for one of those and should I just replace all the bulbs?
& I need to get a new heater, 14g, 100 watts or is that too much???

Hey good to see you back!! Acentic bulbs depending on the length I am assuming 18" shouldnt be too bad $15.00 or so. Also, I think 100W heater is a bit too much prob 50 will do but you can go 75 although thats alot. Usually 3 Watts a gal, is what I was told to use. Hope to see the new tank soon.

100 watts will work fine for a heater. As long as it isn't too low it won't make much of a difference.
As to the bulbs here is Big Al's Selection their prices are usually decent, and it looks like a 65 watt PC straight pin bulb is roughly $25 on their site. You can probably price shop and fine them a few dollars cheaper, but that should give you an idea.
The other thing to consider is that you need to make sure that you're getting the right type of bulb. The contact pins are set up in different orientations on some bulbs and fixtures, so be sure that you get the style of bulb that will fit your fixture.
I would personally change both bulbs at once as they tend to be less intense over time and it gives you an easy point of reference for your records, but you might still be able to get away with using the other bulb for a while. It really comes down to how old the bulb is and personal choice.

also when I got it he put in atleast 2 other filters he must have previously used. They hook onto the back, I think they may be wet/dry but not sure....maybe i should switch them out? Im not getting much luck on what to do with the fluval canister. But, I just hookedup the one last night that had be most recently used to get the livestock in.
