Flower's Sump/Fuge Build

Just lucky I guess, Flower.
Nah...I had already seen on some other sites that the pump has a 3/4" intake. But I do know that the other Eheim pumps have a larger intake and a smaller output, so I was just curious to know if the output on that pump was 3/4' or if it was 5/8'. And technically speaking, I believe they design them to be used with metric size hose...16/18 mm if I'm not mistaken. But either way, 3/4" will work reguardless. Even if the output was designed for 5/8" then 3/4" will work as long as it's clamped good.

It fits pretty tight, I had to realy pull to get the piece of hose off of it when I tested the fit. At any rate the pump came with two clamps
.
Do I have to put the suction cup feet on it? I would rather not, but if it needs to be lifted up and not rest on the bottom then I will, there are no vents on the bottom...it's flat and solid.

The thing with the suction cup feet is that they will keep the pump from vibrating against the bottom of the tank. The people who are using them say the pump is virtually sillent. You don't have to use them if you don't want to but you may hear some noise if you don't. Try it without them and then if it's too loud you can always put them on later.

I have a mag 7, and the mag 18....neither of them have the suction cups, and neither of them vibrate.....
Just telling my experience....not being contradictory

Update on the return for the tank. I've came up with a design that I like better. After much thought on the matter I figured it would be best to steer clear of using all side flow nozzles. The issue that I have with using all side flows is the smaller holes on them. I don't want to see anything get trapped in them or clog them up faster over time. So this new version still has two side flow nozzles but each branch ends with a larger flare nozzle.
I did a test run on the return today out on the back porch to see how well it would work and I was pleasantly surprised that they worked pretty well. I shot a little video so that Flower could see it in action. But you'll have to forgive the poor quality as I had to shoot the video from my phone.
One thing that I'm still kicking around is a good idea on how to support the return. I'd like to make some sort of support for it that would allow it to sit a little higher on the tank. If you notice in the video, I actually just have it resting on a couple of pieces of wood. I'm thinking about maybe taking a couple of pieces just like that prime and painting them and then maybe pick up a conduit clip to clamp the return down to the wood. That should make it pretty stable and raise the return up to the level that I'd like to see it at. But I'm open to ideas if anybody has any.

Here's the link if you want a bigger shot of the video....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LZPWEmVEO0

Corey! FANTASTIC video, Thank you, thank you! I understand exactly how it works now. I’m sure I can find some kind of plastic block to keep it high enough. What’s really helpful is I can see what I need to do and what you mean by supporting the return. I can use plastic zip ties to hold whatever I find to use.
It would be almost impossible for you to find the right thing because I have to adjust everything to my water height. As long as I understand the concept I can get pretty inventive. So don’t worry about that, I can take care of it on this end. That’s got to be the coolest return I have ever seen. I like the idea of pushing the clean water back down into the tank and at the same time have some surface agitation and like that wasn't enough...a hole for the siphon break..Totally awesome! I shall dub it’s name..The Fantastic Corey gizmo! I'm grinning so big right now, my face hurts.

lol...You're Welcome! I like the name.

Yeah, I think if you can find something that can support it a little higher on the tank then that would be best. Because if it just rests on the tank itself then the two sideflow nozzles are going to be below the water line and it will take alot longer for the water to stop draining from the return. Once you get it in a spot that you like I believe you can even fine tune the height of the water level with the overlow itself...I believe it has some adjustment screws that allow you to raise or lower it a little bit.

Glad you like the name...LOL
It's something I can't really do until it gets here... They make plastic blocks I can get from Wal-Mart..the wheels are already turning...

Sorry for the absence!!!! Looks GOOD Corey!!!!!
Looking at the past posts, the suction cups aren't a big issue....It might cut down vibration/noise as Corey has suggested, but worse case they can be put on to take out any noise if needed.....
Fuge acrylic is done at shop....have to make it over there to pic up material, and should be built by the end of the weekend.....Are you getting excited yet Flower?????

Well, I WAS on my way to work and my Mother called me. She hurt her arm and back...My male dog went over the fence to the female in heat and she tried to seperate them. So I am home tonight. I don't think we are cut out for the dog breeding club. I'm going to have the dogs fixed and call it a day. My Mom may want puppies but I just don't see it...way too much work just to keep them seperated...and I have to keep them apart until Nov. 7th...I am looking for a doggie babysitter first thng in the morning...The lady who said she would take the feamle has not been around for a week, I can't get a hold of her. My male is driving me nuts.
My Mom took some pain pills...I may have to carry her to the hospital later if the pain doesn't ease up...
My male won't eat, drink or sleep..he is howling and crying non-stop and hurting Mother is the last straw...time to clip his gonads off.
I had to vent...

Hey Flower!!!!! Sorry to hear about Mom!!!! Hope she feels a little better shortly....Yeah this sinus stuff is kicking my butt....Actually the first whole day I've been actually up and about....Getting a little anxious myself to get busy working again. I did venture out into the garage, but didn't do anything.....You know it's bad when I didn't even pick up the phone to post from
. Everything is looking very good from what I've seen!!!!!!

having a female in heat and just a fence to seperate a male wasnt all that ... well sorry about your mom. While I dont want to discourage you from "fixing" the dogs, If its only 3 weeks, maybe a stake in the ground with a chain on it will assist in keeping "Rex" away from "Josephine" Breeding dogs is much work and takes someone with time to commit to it. Whatever the decision you make, I am supporting you as you and your family have to come first.

I feel your pain Flower....I can remember when my Lexi was still with me.....160lb Rotty.....she was in heat and the wife decided to take her for a walk......
Needless to say my wife wound up being drug, because she had the leash wrapped around her wrist and couldn't get loose and was drug, and wound up breaking 2 toes.....she was wearing flip flops of course, but needless to say Lexi was fixed after that ordeal!!!!!.

Sinus trouble..The very best thing I have found for that is Tylenol Sinus, that stuff really works. I have a serious problem with my sinuses and it helps me allot, rest and don't push yourself, give your body some down time to get well 100%..your future little builder needs you to be your best. The refugium can wait until weekend after next.
My Mom is sleeping, she may not feel the "whip lash" until tomorrow. I don't know what she was thinking, she is not strong enough to hold one full grown shepherd let alone two. I can't chain Atticus, he would get so mean. Shepherds can't be chained, it would ruin him.
My mom wanted puppies, Atticus has great triple Champion blood lines so it seemed possible. I myself have never even owned a female dog. I thought the female would be the problem, she is calm and collected...HE is a mess. He is howling, crying and won't eat or drink and he is vomiting. I had him lay down at my feet and gave him the stay command..he did it, but his toes were just digging into the carpet. 28 days...Nov 7th OMG. My friend in Wisconsin told me she would take Tamerah until it's over but I can't get her on e-mail of by phone and it has been a week.
I talked to my mom and she has agreed to have them fixed, she is disapointed but it really is for the best. 2 years of this I can't stand. They are beautiful intelligent companion dogs to each other and to us...that's more than enough to ask of them. I had no idea how bad a female in heat is on a male..not a clue.
What a night...but it could have been worse.
