I looked up the skimmer you mentioned in your PM...is this it? It says X160 made by coralvue

The one pictured there is the extreme, I think it was Meowzer that posted the other skimmer. Same company, both good skimmers, different styles, the 1 Meowzer suggested smaller foot print, the other bigger foot print, cheaper price..... Decisions!?!?!?!

Here is another GREAT skimmer....runs around $280.............stick it in the sump and plug it in LOL. See water will go in where the pump is, and go out at the grey pipe...right into sump

I like the other one too, and I don't know 100% cause I can not find a pic, BUT I bet it comes with elbows for the outflow......BTW...what is your skimmer budget

Description:
Coralvue is proud to introduce you to their Super Reef Octopus® product line. The use of their Bubble Blaster/Water Blaster pumps include a 3 year warranty. They offer 3 different skimmer designs to meet any design want or space limitations you may have.
The SSS stands for Super Sump Saver. This model incorporates all the same benefits of the XP design but has the pump built into the bottom of the skimmer which allows for a much smaller footprint inside the sump. The XP cone design puts very little back pressure on the pump because there is little resistance from the base of the skimmer all the way up to the collection cup. Less resistance means more skimming ability for the pump to work at its maximum output. When space is limited look to their SSS models.
I did not want to post this whole POST BUT...I could not get the pic to copy

this IMO is the better skimmer

LOL...Let me rephrase.....out of the 2 I posted, I think this one would be better for Flower because of the size, and I think it will be really easy for her to just toss it in and let it go

I agree, was just testing ya. I believe it is a better skimmer, not just the size but the design. Alot of companies have been copying the full cone shape for their skimmers because it's supposed to be a more efficient way for the bubbles to travel upward if I'm not mistaken. The new pumps on em are nice, they've had some defective ones right out of the gate but I think they solved the problem and they have no problem replacing anything if it doesn't work right.

To bad we couldn't use something like this for the ATO tank. It's a 25 gallon fuel tank. Cut a hole in the top for the pump to go in and you're just about good to go. Don't think it's in our price range though. I looked into those wraping paper containers and they're 9" wide for the thinnest ones I found.

The only pet food container I could find that would fit is 3.7 gallons. Perhaps, use two containers and connect them with a PVC pipe??? I don't know but it might work. 7.5 inches wide right?

I agree 100% on better design on the SSS model.....The only thing that I did worry about was the pump issue. I'm not sure if it is solved....It could have been a batch, and then the problem seemed to be hit or miss at times with pump issues.....Customer service though on the issue was excellent. Size was important!!!!! Budget did come into factor and the Extreme comes with an incredibly reliable pump, and that skimmer is just as easy or if not easier to adjust.......

Flower?????
Your the tank....I'm just the builder!!!!! Everyone has made very valuable points and regardless I'm sold CoralVue either way....Just need to define skimmer area for the sump.

Those are neat...I know if you check out AquaticEco, that have poly tanks like that, and just need an opening cut....Don't remember the price range though!!!!!

If I read right Flower only has 26" under the cabinet, this skimmer from head to toe is 20" tall this leaves room to possible raise up the skimmer if the water level is too much. plus I have seen great things since I added this to my tank.needs a small break in period, after that good by crud !!! .Also if you search around there are places that have coupons taking more off. I spent $ 287 total on mine.

Yeah they pretty neat, after I had found that fuel tank I did a little more searching. There are a number of places that make freshwater storage tangs for all kinds of applications. I have came across some sites that would have the perfect dimensions but unfortunately they get very pricey for anything in a descent size. For instance an 18g container that would fit behind Flowers stand would run close to $200. So I did some more searching on ebay and came across this baby for $40. They have 10 available but unfortunately it's 8" wide..39" x 16" x 8" and was the thinnest I could find on the site. If there was anyway to just gain the little extra room behind the stand it would be perfect.

Nice find Corey!!!!! You'll have to PM me the link then might have to check them out for myself. I had been checking out Tractor Supply for water storage containers....

Anyways here's some figures for you math wizards to look over and mull over....

Sump:
(2) 24 1/2"L x 16 1/2"W Top & Bottom Panels. These panels are purposely cut oversize, and that will be explained during the construction process which will make total sense in the end.
(2) 24"L x 13 5/8"H Front & Back Panels
(2) 15 1/4"L x 13 5/8"H Side Panels
(3) 15 1/4"L x 8"H Baffles The baffles will actually set the water height inside the sump.

Both the sump and fuge will be built using 3/8" material.....Brew over these dimensions and double check me.....

Double checked and everything adds up correct by my math, assuming that the vertical seems will be on the sides of the tank like they would be in normal tank construction. I take it there is no need to cut the baffles short to account for any swelling since there will be no silicone used in the construction of the tank everything will be chemically bonded? Would there be any need to cut the baffle on the return section side of the bubble trap any shorter than the one on the skimmer side or is it fine keeping them the same height?

Once we know the final skimmer I can draw that to scale in the sump and maybe if you have a layout of the baffles we can put those in as well. Just a thought - to make sure the collection cup will come off when it is in the sump.
