Once we know the final skimmer I can draw that to scale in the sump and maybe if you have a layout of the baffles we can put those in as well. Just a thought - to make sure the collection cup will come off when it is in the sump.
I love those drawing, Al. You're gonna have to let me know where to get a descent cad program one of these days that a beginer like me I can mess around with. We should be good height wise with either of those skimmers for sure.

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I haven't been around much today..it is a Holiday week for those of us that follow Judaism.

I'm sorry, none of the containers for an ATO is small enough to go behind the stand.

However...

I do have a space next to the tank, I hadn't considered it because it is full of electric...I could move the master controller to the other side and clear that 1 foot area for an ATO tank. 12 inches is more than enough space for a skinny container like what is made for wraping paper or dog food.

That is a 5g jug I use to catch stuff from the skimmer for water changes and as you can see it sits way back up in the space, an ATO tank would fit in there quite easily ...so we can consider the problem solved. It will be right next the sump too.

Thanks Gemmy for pitching in..

As for a simmer...I have made so many very bad choices in skimmers...so Shawn (Acrylic51)...you get to pick it, I trust you lots more than I trust me..LOL..I abide by your decision. You know my budget.

Hi Flower, Shawn here are some details of the sump and fuge with 3/8" material. Let me know the baffle arrangements you are thinking of using and I can add them as well.

I have been using this CAD program for a long time, I do all my woodworking/hobby projects with it. It is really easy to use. I can try to get a copy from work, maybe I can send it to you. You guys are doing a great job picking everything out. I am going to switch my 65 gallon from canister to sump one of these days and I think I can use alot of the same things Flower is going to get.

Thanks Al&Burke!!!!! Baffle arrangement will be (3) each will be spaced 1" apart to minimize bubbles making it to the return area. Was thinking setting the water level at 8", the next baffle would be set 1" up off the bottom of the sump, and the 3rd baffle flush against the bottom as the first baffle.

Double checked and everything adds up correct by my math, assuming that the vertical seems will be on the sides of the tank like they would be in normal tank construction.  I take it there is no need to cut the baffles short to account for any swelling since there will be no silicone used in the construction of the tank everything will be chemically bonded?  Would there be any need to cut the baffle on the return section side of the bubble trap any shorter than the one on the skimmer side or is it fine keeping them the same height?
No was planning on keeping the 3rd baffle height identical to the 1st baffle. We could cut it shorter, but the purpose is to allow any bubbles that might make it that far, a chance to rise to the top and pop.

Here is the drawing with the Octopus XP1000sss in it - I took the basic outer dimension 9.5 x 7.5 x 20.5 h.

Shawn, I have to be off to the Synagogue here in a moment..I wanted to ask you...How deep should the sand be in the refugium?

Oh and trying to wrap my mind around how this works...If I understand this right, water will come from the display tank to the skimmer area and the refugium from a duel overflow...then be pumped from the simmer area over the baffles and into that middle section where a return pump is going to be, overflow from the refugium goes into the center as well so the return pump sends water from both tanks back to the DT. My ATO hose feeds into the center area as well. Do I understand it right?

Excellent!!!! Looking very good. What are you thinking Flower?
I do have a second thought about going with the overflow box with 1 bulkhead instead of the CS102.

Now your cookin' Flower!!!!!! You are correct. The water leaving the skimmer will be forced to flow to the center(return section).

You mention the water leaving the skimmer, that I have that much correct...LOL ...what about the refugium? And how could you do the two tanks with only one overflow? I guess I will need you to make some arrows.
