If it were me I would bring it up a little higher closer to the teeth. Otherwise it might be a little noise hearing the sound of water falling all the way down into the O/F. If the pipe was higher it wouldnt have so far to fall and will be alot quieter.
Just to be clear on the fitting that I'm talking about in the picture. It's a 90 degree elbow...not a T fitting. And the thing with the red handle is a ball valve. It will allow you to control the amount of flowing going into the fuge. Some people like to tweak their flows. Have a little more going one way and a little less going the other. Personally I would rather have a little less water going to the fuge because that means the water that does go in there goes a little slower and give the macro algea a little more time to help remove nitrates.
Nice choice on the pump by the way. That's the same one I will be purchasing.
PERFECT! That's exactly what I wanted to hear! I was going to ask someone later to find out how I can send more water into one area rather than another... so I should remove the T pipe that I have right now there and place the ball valve there instead?

No you don't have to remove the T...just install a ball valve somewhere in the line on the side going to the fuge. That way you can close it off just a little bit to slow the flow on that side. And that will send the extra water in the other direction towards the skimmer.

Oooh, I see, I for some reason had it stuck in my head that the the valve was on top of a 3 split pipe... ok. So it doesn't really matter where I put it then? I'd want to have it as close to the center of the O/F drain as possible to make it a greater push to one side rather than water getting all the way to the refug and having to sit to be pushed out...
Also... I'm a bit confused about the pipe in the O/F now... it's a 1" pipe... and the OF has a huge area of space for the water to drop... so won't it be dropping in there rather loud regardless of where the pipe is? Because the pipe is 1" and the OF is an area that is anywhere from 5x4 to 7x4

You would not add an anemone until your tank was a minimum of 6 months old anyway......so you have plenty of time to research lighting.....:)
Yeah, I suppose. I just wanted to eventually have baby clown fish!
... well then with that being said can I still add eel or anything like that to my tank? Or does it have to be strictly fish? And for that matter... do I have to have live rock anymore or does that not even matter?

If you look under your stand where the T is...you'll want to put the valve on the pipe on the left side of the T...the side that's going towards the fuge.
What will happen in your overflow is that water will fill up in it untill it reaches the top of the pipe...therefore if the top of the pipe is closer to the top of the overflow then the water will have less distance to fall. Less distance to fall = less noise.

When it comes to livestock this is where you are really going to have to take the time to research and figure out what is compatible to put in a tank together. Personally I will try to keep all peaceful and reefsafe fish. I don't know alot about eels but from what I've seen up the the LFS...if it's small enough to fit in it's mouth...it will get eaten.

Also, I have just slip ins for all of my piping just about. Is that ok or will that cause leakage? I was advised to add plumbers putty around all of the parts that slip in just to keep from any leak... what do you guys think?
Should I also add a hole on any of my pipes to break the syphon in case water level drops or is that not necessary?

Sparty, you HAVE TO get pvc primer and glue and glue all the pieces together or they will leak. Who told you to use plumbers putty? Obviously not a plumber lol.
No you shouldn't need to make any holes as long as you keep your outputs up near the waters surface like was discussed by Posieden and myself earlier.

+1 on the glue....we have all our pvc glued.....

I guess I should clarify...you have to glue all of the slip pieces...ALL OF THEM!!! But the threaded adapters you don't need to glue. I like to use liquid teflon on threaded joints, myself.

Ok, I gotcha... what kind of glue... like PVC Cement? Also, when I glue everything together... is it going to next to impossible to remove the pipes ever? I'm just thinking down the line from if I ever move or if I ever want to relocate the tank.

Yes, get pvc glue and primer. Deffinately use primer before the glue, the pipes will get a better bond that way and less chance of a leak. No you won't be able to remove them once they are glued but a couple of well places Union fittings would change that if you want to add some of those in. Most people do just for that reason.

Something along those lines yes, but you don't want 150W metal halides becaues your tank is 30" deep...so you're going to need at least 250W metal halides in order to penetrate that deep if you wish to keep an anemone and a variety of corals some day. So you'll need to find one of those fixtures that is made for 250W metal halide bulbs. You can't just change out the bulbs to bigger ones because the ballasts won't be the same.

I didn't believe that until just last week. In 6 months I have spent well over $1000 and that doesn't include my tank, stand, or sand.
lol agreed I think I broke $1000 in my first 2 months, and I used an old 55 gal that I repaired...so I saved all the money I could and stillspent alot of cash. No way around it

Does anyone know what kind of glue and primer i can use without it being bad for the.fish/tank?
Yes I had this same issue. If have a Lowes or Home Depot near you look for a something that says aquarium safe. And a tip from someone who has done this MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING U NEED BEFORE YOU START! I made this mistake and had to make do. Also DO NOT SEAL IT INDOORS. I tried it in my basement, it was a hrrible idea, I was messing up alot and very dizzy. So if that is not what your going for do it outside and make sure you wait about two to four days to have it set fully.
