Never heard of a signal goby, is there another name for them or do you have a picture?
I like the second option too. Tailspots rock!
*edit: Just saw a picture, go with option 2. That would be awesome.

just in case anybody else asks, they are also know as twin spot, two spot, crab eye, or 4 wheel drive gobies. There scientific name is signigobius biocellatus. Nothing special color wise but they are pretty neat to watch.

8 cords and 4 timers seems like a little much for 18 gallons but that's what I ended up with. 2 hyperflows, aqualifter on a timer for ato, heater, fuge light and moon lights on the same timer, white LEDs on a timer, and MH on a timer. I'm pretty sure that's everything but I'm not looking at it ATM.

That'll look nice with the white as dawn and dusk, nice easy transition for the corals.
I should rig something like that, but I'm trying to save up for a 40 breeder, and a house at the same time lol. House usually wins on priority.

I'm back so here are pics with water. The pumps didn't show up on Monday like they were suppose to (back ordered) and now I have to wait another 10 days or so. Current this is just running with the stock pump. This pics are the greatest (iphone) and I didn't get one of the fuge light (later). In the pics the blue and white LEDs are on, but not the MH.

The water is still a little cloudy and the glass hasn't been cleaned, but here are some more with the MH on and LEDs off. I also put 56 frag plugs in place
I was kind of surprised to find out that the MH being on did not raise the temp of the water more than .1 degree. The MH has been on for 4 hours now and I've had a digital thermometer in it the whole time. I'm not sure why everyone on R C seems to run a chiller if they have a sunpod.

So I brought home my aqualifter to get a feel for actual gph at 48 inches. I ran a test twice with one gallon of water sitting on the floor, the pump elevated at 24 inches and the tubing running up and over a price of wood at 48 inches and then into the sink. It took 60 minutes the first time and 59 the second time.
I plan to run the aqualifter on a timer during business hours (so I'm there). At least initially I'll also have a skitter on the timer and a lamp plugged in so I have a visual sign that the pump is running. This should allow me to only have to manually top off once a week which I'm looking forward to.

honestly I have started testing. I'll be patient and wait until there are some obvious signs that something is going on. Right now there is a shrimp rotting away in there so if not already then very soon.

Sorry if I missed it, is your rock homemade from Portland cement? If so did you cure it long and are you seeing any Ph swings?

Nope, it's foam and rock rubble covered in epoxy and carib sea puka shell and aragamax sand. The main peice on the back wall is more than 6 months old and the front columns were made abaout a week and a half ago.

I've decided to build an almost mini sump insert for the first chamber which should allow me to use floss and top light chaeto. It's kind of hard to describe but it should direct the flow through 2 baffles (very verticle) where I can store floss, purigen and a media bag with sea gel and still leave a 2.5 x 9 inch area for chaeto, 10 inches deep. I'll take pics as I build it, hopefully this afternoon.
