Either way, when I do set up my next fowlr, and it is full of several hundred dollar fish like crosshatches, or the "impossible fish" I'm going to make darn sure it doesn't have parasites or worms going in. Whether it be hypo, or copper.
Yeah, I really don't know why copper and an de-wormer (praziquantel) aren't more common. I think a lot of us are just scared of copper; but Cupramine has a very wide range between effective & toxic levels and I think its perfectly safe. I also use a SeaChem copper test kit which is very accurate & easy to read, then remove the copper with SeaChem Cuprisorb. I think its faster than carbon and is re-chargable. Between the copper & the praziquantel; the chances of introducing parasites is almost nil; IMO. There were some recent comments on another thread quoting Bob Fenner as questioning hypo as a ich cure; I have no real opinion, because I never use it.

Personally, I think hypo more popular for a couple reasons, dosing is math and people don't do math. Second, it is less expensive, and third that for sure is hard on a fish.
Here is what I wonder. Is your orp levels go up as your specific gravity goes down, shouldn't the increase in oxygen almost intoxicate your fish. Making it a pretty mellow experience?

It might. I kept all my fish at 1.017-1.018 for years and only changed when I started keeping LR, coral, and other inverts that can't tolerate lower SG. Not only the O2, but the lower SG puts less inward pressure on the fish. This was very common years ago and i know many commercial facilities keep their fish at the lower level. Here's an active thread that gets into this subject.I'm no scientist, but I think most fish are more active at a lower SG; and I know of other, smarter folks on this forum that have had the same experience.

I cannot wait to see them in your tank! Good luck and may you find the missing link so we all can keep them!

Now, one thing I find curious, is if we are interested in solving the riddle, as it were, why wouldn't anyone be interested in what this girl did 3-4 years ago to successfully keep a MI. I'm suprised no one asked. Part of trialing "delicate" fish is to learn from people's past successes and failures.

The idols arrived.
They are about 0.5" -1" smaller than I expected but I guess that's the risk you run when ordering online. Hopefully these guys don't get bullied too much in my tank. Other than that they appear to be in very good health. They are acclimating now...

They look AWESOME. I also use copper and de wormer on my tankalso when I introduce anything new into it. Also run mega UV sterlization ALL THE TIME and freshwater dips on new fish for 3 days also. Could that be why I do not get ICH outbreaks everyone. MY UV is rated for a 400 gallon tank each and I am running a pair of them. Yet I have no problem growing pods in my rock at all.

You put copper in your display?
Those MIs look awesome already. Would it be possible to grow them out a little in another tank before they go into the large display so you can really work on their diet? Just a thought because it's what I have to do with all my seahorses they come so small. Are you going to QT? Just trying to follow along with your plan and cheer these guys on.

I'm not sure that the first question was directed at me but in case it was, no I do not put copper in my tank.
They have gone straight into the display. I don't believe that QT is right for my setup (for various reason's that I've gone into in other threads). Anyway, they seem to be doing great. Their height makes them impossible for my lionfish to try to eat (I hope) and so he has not shown any interest in them. They are getting very little bullying right now. They've been in the tank for about 10 minutes and the only fish that seem to be harassing them are the yellow tangs. Even that appears to be nothing significant. The idols are sticking together and basically mirroring each other right now. It's really cool. My lights don't go on until about 4:00pm so they have a while to get comfortable before everything brightens up. So far so good...
10 minutes and they are still alive. .. too early to declare success?

There is success in just getting them shipped to you and you getting them acclimated and into your tank still alive me thinks..........
Can't wait to see pictures of them in your ocean swimming together!!

Not that it means a whole lot yet but they aren't trying to hide at all. They are swimming very well and one of them has already started to pick off the liverock.

Something interesting is going on in the tank. The yellows have pretty much lost interest in harassing the newcomers but the purple has now attempted to establish dominance. What's interesting is that my naso is intervening in the aggression and actually pushing the purple away when it's being a jerk. I've heard of this before, where a large, peaceful tang like a naso will act as a peacemaker in its tank. Never actually seen it before though.

If you can get them to eat pellets I heard the New Life Spectrum pellets were the ones to try to get them on.
