Ah. Thanks Sip. I am still fighting the algae though. Do not be envious of an algae pit!! Dinos are horrible. :(

I just have to but in here and state that you have the most amazing aquarium! I absolutely love your aquascape, fish, lights and corals, especially the green palys, they look stunning in there! You are my role-model

Truth is, I am tired of this tank's algae problem. I can suction it off the rocks and sand daily to no good. It comes right back. I really hate to kill the lights again too. It seems to really really stress my fish, and I almost lost my sunset monti, and my purple haze monti is still not recovered. I was trying another method that just doesn't seem to be working either. I will be setting up the fluval fx-5 today, but I don't think it will give me much help. If it doesn't, I have only one option. If the 20g nano I am working on does as good as I think it will, I will downgrade back to the 75g after I drill it too. Then, I can always set this tank back up later. But I doubt I will. I would have to say goodbye to my tangs, and chromis. I would only keep my anthias, clowns, mandarin and tail spot blenny. Not meaning to rant on here, just throwing my thoughts out there....

Okay, so after a lot of reading online, I have come up with a plan. I am gonna suction out what I can, and replace the water. This will be the last water change for a long time. I will use the fine filter pads in the fx5 to catch any of the dino in the water column as I am doing a 3-5 day lights out period. I will run as much chemipure elite as I can in the filter. I will try to keep ph around 8.5 or so. Wish me and this tank luck please...

Thanks. But from the threads that I have read, no one has actually eradicated them. They get rid of them for awhile and then say stuff like, once this happened they came back...blah blah blah. to me that is not good enough. I want to get rid of them completely if I can. Probably Impossible I know..

I'm not a fan of chemicals in the reef, but take a look at Marine Tank Clarifier. It used to be made by Kent Marine and some stores still stock the Kent Marine version, but now it seems to be bottled by Coralife. (or that might be the other way around, used to be made by coralife, now Kent) Either way, it's the same exact stuff. It works. I've used it in the past to rid my tank of diatoms and the start of dino, no ill effects to fish or corals. Worth a shot.

Nice little skunk cleaner. I have two in my tank and they are quite big now. Right now they both are full of eggs. I wish there was some way I could collect them and have a bunch of babies.
My skunks ride my achilles and powder blue tangs often for clean up duties.

Thanks Guys. BTLDreef, I will look into that. Anything is worth a shot. Wonder if it would help more when I do the lights out period where they say dinos go into the water column, and are easily removed? If this stuff binds to it, it would be a blessing in a bottle LOL.

It's definitely worth a shot for the $10 or so that the bottle costs. I know you're at the end of your rope with this stuff. Just want more thing I wanted to throw out there: Diatom Filter. Someone on a local forum is swearing by them. I've never used one and don't know much about it, but while the dino is in the water column, I could see where the Diatom Filter might work.

I don't even know what a diatom filter is. LOL. But, I can run the fine filter pads too. Worth a shot. Let me state though that what I have been doing so far is keeping it from taking over my tank. How long it will last I dunno. It does get frustrating esp. when I think I know where it come from. I just don't see it coming back from very strong bleached rock, then dried out for almost a year. I do however see it coming from the owner of a company that I purchased a few frags from. He supposedly eradicated it from his tank, I read his threads. I do not think so. Makes me not want to add anything else to my tanks...ever....LOL.

It's almost more frustrating when you can trace back where something came from

Why can't this hobby be easy?

Yeah, I know. People tend to infect our tanks with a lot of things, this algae included. It didn't show up in QT either. I just did a quick search about diatom filters. Seems there are a couple out there. Looks like a skimmer. I will research more later. Just got home from work, and gotta go back tomorrow. Thanks for the tip btw. :)

Diatome filters are used a pool filters, the media is diatomaceaous earth. Here is a sales pitch.........
"Aquarium diatom filters are unsurpassed in filtration power and polish your water to perfect clarity using diatomaceous earth - an organic sediment with a unique pore structure that will trap the smallest debris (as small as 1 micron). Aquarium diatom filters promote faster fish healing by removing organics and parasites. Because they are so thorough, diatom filters need frequent cleaning. We recommend using them regularly instead of running them continuously, or when you need to tackle a tough particulate problem, stubborn algae, or to polish up your water."
