Yeah, it's a DE filter. They've been around for years. I don't like em' because you can't continuously use them and they do clog up really easily. Besides, I'm really under the assumption that most corals benefit from having some particulate organic matter in the water column. If you strip everything away...
Not saying they don't have their place. Many TOTM threads from around the world use DE filters to clean their tanks before a photo shoot. They will run it for a few hours and then shut it off until the next time they need it. Not worth the extra money, IMHO.

I've never used one or even seen one available for sale in my LFS's. I know a local guy that swears by running them once every 2-3 weeks on all his salt and brackish tanks, but I've just never felt that I needed one so never looked into it at all. Just wanted to give Luvmyreef another option that some people claim works.

Well, with what BTLDreef is saying about them, and with what spanko posted, it may be ideal for me to use just to help me get rid of these dinos. It would be worth paying for it now, rather than tearing down this tank that I have put a lot more money in it than I care to remember.....

Oh, forgot to mention that I got the fx-5 up and running. My tank water looks crystal clear, and my acros are extending their polyps more. :) Mega Filtration LOL....

Thanks, he kept chasing the other male all over until he hid and then just swam around with this female (I think). I originally thought all three were males, but looks like one might not be lol. Uh Oh.

Very funny, You know I have chickens, I have two roosters that are separated, the one is with the main flock, he hatched in the barn under a broody hen, eggs from the neighbours, so I bought 4 chicks of a specific breed I was looking for, you know just like fish, three of them were roosters, gave two away, kept the one rooster with the hen, of the same species. Next week I am going to try to get the two roosters in the same hen house, should be interesting. Sorry I just had to share that with you luvmyreef.

I know, I am a stubborn Canadian hobby farmer, they can get along but one will have to be the papagalo (italian for numero uno) number one
