thanks! I am definitely staying away from damsels. i was thinking a green chromis first. i know it will be a while before i buy any snails, 23 days and my sand is still pretty white. it will probably sneak up on me-the diatom bloom.

I got the brown stuff first all over my rocks; hermits eat that and like the rocks. Snails stay on the glass and in the sand. If you get some extra shells the hermits will leave the snails alone.
Chromes are in the damsel family, just like the clowns are listed with them in my book. They are not the same evil things, just the same family. I have clowns.
Since you have the time to daydream...think of the fish you most want and go from there. For example, I wanted the Hippo tang. I had it in a 55g for two years before it got too big for it. Always go with your favorite first, and then build your stock around it. Be picky.
Also if you are going for a reef, make a cave or large over hang, not all corals want the bright lights and a cave or overhang will allow for a better variety of corals. Now is the time to rearrange the rock if you need to.

Dont the Mexican Turbos get really big? I think thats why I went with Astrea. They do stay on the glass but I dont see them on the sand much. Mine also stay in my rock work. The bigger the snail the more stuff they can knock over. Keep that in mind. The fish store in the flea market, yeah I want some pictures of that. Sounds like a black market kind of thing. I am sure its not but I got that image in my head. I can hear someone whispering..."psssst, come here, you want one of these. I can get you one pretty cheap...wink wink."

Yeah I know chromis are in the same family, but not the same temperment. And I think they are pretty. I really want a hippo and might get one. a really really small one and I will sell it once it gets too big.
I am going to rearrange my rocks around. There are a few odd shaped rocks that were hard to place securely. So, we shall see what I can come up with.

LMAO
Well, I went to slumming through the flea market and I couldn't find it. It's so weird because I read reviews from last weekend of someone who went there. It's a HUGE flea market and I walked to whole thing. Couldn't find it. Oh well
I am glad you said that about the mexican t. snails, I might stick with the astreas.

Tell him to get use to it.....everytime you rearrange something you will get a little bit of "mess"

Lol I tell him that. He thinks that every time I make a "little" mess it's going to prolonge the cycling time. He is crazy.

he is just impatient and can't handle it! LOL, he just wants something in there.

thats so exciting for you. i will jump on your thread to check them out. for snails i will probably go with mexican turbos. and maybe add some astraea later on. how many should i start out with? i was thinking maybe 5 or so.
also i am going to a LFS that is located in a flea market... cant wait to see this place.
I personally wouldn't go with turbos or astraeas. In my 55 I started off with ten astraeas, and they were all dead within four months, and that was with a four hour acclimation. I now have two nerites, four margaritas, and five trochus. They keep the tank pretty clean. I like the trochus because they can flip themselves over (unlike the astraea, where you have to go swimming every time the stupid things flip over), and also seem to eat more than the astraea.
I also have ten nassarius, one of the giant nassasius, ten cerith, a emerald crab, and a peppermint shrimp. They keep the tank nice and clean.

no to water change, i was told that it would prolonge the cycle. this is coming from a few ppl that i know. so, i dont know. i am open to suggestions concerning that. as far as the testing i am thinking on taking a sample to lfs and see what they come up with

I think I would take the water to the lfs first....then talk to someone (besides me LOL) and ask about their feelings on a w/c
