My Long Term Reef Build Diary!

That is good to know, I thought I had seen an 8 bulb with the individual reflectors on a certain marine website, that ends in depot. but... whatever. Just make sure that you're getting like 5.3 WPG and then you'll really be getting about 3-4... and that's more than enough. Get the 6 bulb, just a longer guy to fit the tank... and I think you'll be golden. It only took my tank up 2 degrees, all day running for 12 hours. The fans are really quiet too. Also, don't get freaked out by the light. It'll seem crazy but after a few days, you'll get used to it and it'll seem normal. lol... It kind of made my house purple.
The reef was way worth it though.

With the 6 bulb fixture, ill be getting about 4.5wpg. So that sounds good. I could always leave them on for a little longer if I absolutely need it.

Also, I just checked that certain site you were referring to and all the fixtures but the 48" 8x54W have the individual reflectors. This one has a german marabolic reflector. Even throught there. They were supposed to be coming out with the same fixture with the individual reflectors in 2007 says Currents website, but I cant find a fixture with them.

Mark don't worry too much about the reflector issue...........
The six bulb N.E.Pro. will do just fine for your size tank!

Here are a few more shots of stuff under this light in my 72 which has basically the same depth as your new one has......Also look at NYCBob's tank a great 72 bow with the same light and more SPS corals than I.
Here are some "braggin" shot to keep you motivated......

The first shot is a Lords Acan.........Pretty guys some are much more colorful than he even.........
The orange thing is a Orange Monti an easy SPS coral, good starter for SPS but give it a while before starting SPS's..... He started from a piece than the size of a quarter a few years back.......... Every time you can break off a little piece or a little piece falls off you have another one to start.....

Here is a shot of him when he was small and just starting to grow in August of 07....

Nope close cousin, that is a Frogspawn........ Here is my Torch..along with my goofy Maroon Clown...Tip here never buy a Maroon,
as bad as Damsels which are cousins of them too..

My mistake. I get the two confused all the time. Love them both. Which grow faster in your experience?

Nearly the same in growth speed.......Do not worry too much about growth speed...The Torch in some folks minds is a touch harder to care for than a Frog or Hammer.
I learned to like starting thing from very small frags.... Most everything I have except maybe Zoa's I started from single frag heads. My Hammer, Torch and Frog all started from single head stems
One of the true adventures in this for me over the years has been being able to look back and see the growth occur over time. Taking lots of pictures is an asset too.
For an example here is that same Frogspawn back in January of 07 as a single head...........

Oh definately. I think im more into corals than fish, but for future reference, if I got one of the two, I didnt want to put it too close to another coral. Good to know for when placing corals.

Ive heard the same thing about the maroon clowns. Best in FOWLR agressive tanks I hear.

Why never buy a maroon clown? I have one and he is adorable. He has such a great personality.
You see that thing with it's head peering out of that Torch??
He has one thing in mind. Bite the hand that feeds him and chase everyone else in the tank away....Juvenal personality leads to adult bullishness in this guy........
The Maroon although different, are I feel the most aggressive of Clowns once they reach adulthood.
After years having the beast, I just wish I had started with other less aggressive Clowns......

Mine is the size of a nickel at the moment. Maybe I should scoop him out while I can and trade him for a pair of percs like I had before. I traded them to keep the maroon who was hosting, but not he doesn't anymore. He's a been a real let down. I'm jk... I actually plan to keep both species but I hear they have to both have their own anemone and that will co exist fine on opposite sides of the tank in my big guy.

God idea. I hate to remove any fish, but this guy would be been the first in my mind to go....I do not think a Maroon would tolerate any other Clown species regardless of tank size, unless the tank was very large and hostings where already well established.....Maroons in my mind are the Damsels of Clown species. Get a pair of Percs again, much prettier and happier too as the grow

I will try to take him to an LFS tomorrow, they actually have my clowns, but I don't think they'll give them back. Makes me really sad when I see them. They look happy, but I raised them from really young, and they were my 1st fish. I wish I could have them back but It's okay, I could just get some others.... clowns are a dime a dozen. But I am still sad about them.

Ok guys. I need your opinions again. Some things could change dramatically.
Ok, heres the deal. I am about to spend $150 on the 75g with stand. There is a man that emailed me and asked me if I wanted his 180g for $200. What do you think? Which should I do? I have room for either of the two. The 180g doesnt come with a stand, but I figured I could build one. I have seen it done numerous times on here. So here are the choices:
75g with stand--$150
180g without stand--$200
It almost seems stupid to not get the 180, but I dont know. Both are drilled. The 75g has one overflow in the left back corner. The 180g has dual overflows.

I was thinking the same. Its just going to take me a little longer to get all the equipment. Hope you all are in for the long run!
