i called them and here is what i found. I canot belive the stock nanocube has only 48 watts of lights?.. i thuoght i was supoused to have 120watts? or something liek that.. anyhow he said he has a 72watt upgrade (adding an extra light)...
http://www.nanotuners.com/index.php?...5548c07f4ce6b8
100$ + shipping + 17.99 (x3) for all new lights.. give or take will come out to about 180$ for new lighting system (72watt).. is it even worth it?.. or should i just replace my lights (2 24watt stock lights) for 17.99 each.. give or take 50$ for just new lights.
i dont plan on having anemones or anything in here but i guess the higher the watts the faster my coral would spread/grow?.. any info would be appreciated.

i also havent heard of any1 putting a sunpod on a 12gal .. i keep seeing them on the 24's but i havent seen it on the 12..

Where have you heard mixed reviews about the sunpod? Maybe the jbj viper but I rarely hear anything but rave reviews about it. I will be getting one in the near future. You could always just replace the bulbs in your stock hood and be done with it, but I see it as a perfect time to upgrade

the sunpod is offered in 20"... i think its goingt o be wayyy to much power for a little 12gal but if you guys are saying thumbs up.. i guess ill do it..
do you guys think i can sell my stock hood as well with the ballasts and stuff?.. wonder how much it would go for if i can.

The 20 inch is too big. But the 16.5 inch will fit perfectly. They don't make them in that size anymore though. That is why I said to check sleazebay, the other day when I was on there were a few for well under $200 shipped with newer bulbs.

yeah, i bet you would be able to sell your top. You can try posting it in the for sell section on this site. i've ran into similar threads of people selling their hoods. I personally would keep it as a backup or just in case for some reason you end up not liking the sunpod or something like that. all i hear is good things about it though.
As for your cover, geeez, someone in the nano forums just recently made one...i cant remember who...was it Coral Keeper? I would get your hands dirty and down to Home Depot or Lows and DIY, that way you can custom fit to your tank. Hell, I would even send you some mesh screen if you needed it, i have extra.

alright guys, i guess im going with the sunpod.. looking on ---- .. i found there are
20" 150 watt..
and
20" 250 watt.. i dont want this to be over kill but i do like sick lighting. I am having a tough time grabing the 16.5... do you guys think getting the 20" would be a big deal?.. figure 2" on each side that it hangs off?.. bleh.. + if i upgrade my tank i can always use it (i wont go 2 much bigger.. most ill go is a 24gal.. so i figured i can use the 20" on that one too?..
ORRRRRRR
i can do the 72watt upgrade from nano tuners?... INPUT PLEASE!!
Also upon furthur reading i also read that MH (which is what the sunpod is correct) get VERYYYYYY hot and im afraid its going to make my water get tooooooooooo hot.. any1 having problems?.. is putting 150/250 watts from a sunpod for a 12gal nanocube a bit overboard?..

250 is definitely overboard. 150 I am not so sure about. I have been trying to read up on that myself, and haven't really found too many people that have done it.

i know im talking 2 my self here now but now im kinda thinking about just doing the upgrade from nanotuners.. im so confused.. but 72 watts?.. thats not going to be enough lighting for cool corals no?..
i want my stuff to shine bright, have nice color.. grow fast.. thats the only reason i was looking at the sunpod.
then i think of it, and im spending what 150$ or so.. might as well get the sunpod. (even though it looks toooo ugly without the stock hood on).. i dunno man.. someone convince me to do somthing. LOL

oh Ronnie, what would you do without us? If you go with the nanotuners you may run into heat issues and honestly 72 watts still wont get you all the corals you would probably want or much of a brighter/color change.
I say go with a sunpod because it will give you everything you want for your corals, but definitely look into which one you need before buying. You may think about going with a dealer that will accept returns if you absolutely dont like it. I think once you see the difference the light makes for your tank, you will forgive the looks. Research because if you are still confused about which one to get, then you are not ready to buy it yet. You dont want any regrets, right?

oki will, however its only 75 watts for the 16.5" sunpod... and hard to come across ...
should i go with the 150watts 20" and have it hang off a bout? 2" or so on the sides?.. that wont be TOO MUCHHH power?.. let me know and ill order it 2day.
There is 1 one ending in 6 hours that is 20" 250watt version!... Please advise about the 20" in 150watt/250watt and if either would be "TOO MUCH LIGHTING" to run into problems.
