HMMMM....Something I may look into in the future.....I could always hook it up to my 10G container that I always keep full of ro/di, and let that one run off the ro/di.....Ifthat one were to over flow who cares....WELL....the laundry room might LOL......But it wouldn't kill anything hahahahaha

.....I dont have a RO unit so I thought I could use a 5 hallon water jug on a stand to gravity feed the float?
Do you think that would work out?

There use to be some good DIY tips on this......I think I read the search function is working again....do a search on DIY ATO's and see what you come up with.....

That would work using gravity to feed the makeup water and when pressure is applied to the float switch it would shut the water flow off. The thing is you don't want an endless supply of water to the system in the event of a stuck float.

LOL....I was telling my husband about your ato system....he had a good point....he said..when are we never here except for 8 hours most.....he works various shifts, and we RARELY go anywhere.....I figured if we ever went away, I would close the valve....
I check it as soon as I get up, as soon as I get home from work, and constantly while I am at home.....
I may still look into this though.....BUT I have to first fix some other things
and get some bulbs

You gotta love the various shifts.... My accidents always happen an hour after I'm at work. I had a 150 years ago that split a seam 2 hours into my shift.

Well I only work Mon-Thurs.......and his shifts seem to be opposite of what I work....mostly.....Of course he doesn't check the tanks like I do...LOL...BUT I would have to hope he would notice water on the floor....

For now I will keep my fingers crossed, as I always seem to be needing something..
....I need to get 8 T5HO lights for my 225G tank sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......

I think you got the right idea if you are going away to shut off the valve. The only thing you have to consider then is how much your tank evaporates and how long you will be gone and decide then if you can make the stretch. I have my small container (15gal) or so and when it runs out its out. Only problem is my Pergo floors didnt appreciate the 10gals of water that got on them when my tank busted. Other than that water can be mopped up.

Hey there are baby shrimp (or something) in my phosban reactor....LOL....I was just watching it to make sure the pellets were still as they should be...and saw these little things moving around
How neat

Phosphates are holding at 1...I know that isn't perfect, BUT it is still a heck of a lot better then 10

Give it time......do you have any type of mechanical filtration in place? What are you feeding? Is the media just at a slight tumble still?

I have chemi-pure elite in a canister, and basically that is all I use....OH...I have a stocking with some phosguard in it, and a phosphate pad in the sump/refugium still
I feed H20 frozen foods (various types), saltwater multipack, frozen formula 2, and frozen prime reef...YES, the media is still at a slight tumble....yesterday was one week that I have had it, and the instructions said to turn the flow up for a minute....I did to stir the stuff up, and then turned it back down to the slight tumble...

Excellent.....how often or when's the last time you changed out your chemi-pure and your other media (phosguard and phosguard pad)? Are you rinsing your frozen food before adding to the tank?

The chemi pure was just put in last week.....it was close to 6 months that I had it, and I am thinking it needs to be changed out within 4 months....
The phosguard and pad are in there 2 weeks now.....IDK how often I need to change that....
And yes....I rinse the foods first...then soak in vitamins

Try limiting the soaking of vitamins....maybe it's possible your adding your phos through those additions?? How much are you feeding at a time as well? How often do you feed?

I feed once a day, and I feed various cubes...1 cube formula 2, 1 cube prime reef, 1 cube mysis/spirulina....and 3 or so cubes of various H20 foods.....
I have flakes and pellets that I throw a pinch in 1x-2x a week at night as a treat...they are spectum Thera plus, and formula 2 flakes and pellets....I also use algae sheets periodically

What test kits are you using? Have you ever had your tested results compared by either the LFS or another brand of test kits? Kinda like a redundancy type thing? What's your stock level? So your feeding 3 cubes or 6 cubes a day?

more like 6 cubes...my guys are pigs, and there is NEVER any left over...I also feed scallops directly to the crabs and anemones
Stock..LOL...I have a sailfin, yellow and blue hippo tang, 2 ocellaris clowns, 2 pajama cardinals, blue yellow tail damsel, pseudochromis, coral beauty, flame angel, bi-color blennie, lawn mower blennie, sleep banded bulelt, mandarin, 2 green chromis,
I am sure I am forgetting someone....LOL...I have MANY snails, conch, emerald crabs, brittle stars, serpent stars, BTA anemone, pink tube anemone, purple anemone, corals....corals....more corals....sally light foot crab, peppermint shrimp....gsp, leathers
LOL....
I have API basic kits, Salifert calcium, & ALK tests,,,api phosphate.....PH...etc...etc....
P.S. I have NO LFS to take my water to :(

I'd pick up a Salifert Phos kit and check it against your API for reference....I honestly think your feeding way to much everyday.....Those guys aren't going to starve....But again I think part of the issue might be the performance of your skimmer as well.
