I have the ASM G3 with upgraded pump. It was probably one of the best purchases I ever made. Meowzer, you won't regret it, especially if you have more than one tang!
I keep mine in 10 or so inches of water. I actually ended up putting it in the second chamber of my sump because it wouldn't fit in the first and it still does an amazing job.

This is sooooooo frustrating....every time I buy something that's "better" it seems after a while it turns out not to be good enough

My center section is the refugium...so it can't go in there....and I don't think it can go in the same section with the return pump...altho the water level in there is 9" and the width is also 9" X 12" depth....

OMG I HAVE A THOUGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.....Since everyone thinks the skimmer pump is too far under water.....How about I raise the pump up , and I can cut the clear skimmer tube so it will still be flush with the whole set-up
See I was thinking if I just raise the pump and tube...the tube will then be 5" above water.....will foam be able to travel that far up??????

i dont think that will fix your problems at all. itd be better to some how rearrange everything and replace with a powerful skimmer. adding a seaclone wouldnt do much

LOL....the Seaclone thing was a joke....
MAN....OK....we will start configuring something I guess......IDK if I will be able to find a skimmer to fit in the compartment I have now....not sure how to go about this .....
Is there a skimmer that can stand next to a sump?????

Ever hear of this......it would fit too
SUPER 1004 VORTEX PROTEIN SKIMMER
Super skimming system for large marine aquariums. Has a built in venturi reaction chamber to spin the bubbles sideways. Jet venturi injector to give optimum bubble size. Pump not included. Up to 400 gallons.
Dimensions: 8" x 8" x 6" x 29
I think it would also work with my pump....There's a videoon one of them

Not trying to burst any bubbles, but even that skimmer is way overrated and again not a skimmer that will honestly get you where you want to be...There isn't a clear concise answer and could be debated for hours as to what skimmer is better, but you don't, and can't base your skimmer selection off the space available. The contact with that little guy is all but nill......
We had discussed earlier about methods and ways to control the Phos issue at hand and heavy skimming is key.
Yes they do make skimmers that are external, and are run external. I think I had shown you an example of my MRC3 recirc which is run external. With a little rigging you could even get an ASM to run externally, and you could feed it directly off a drain line to your sump. Would just need to put a valve inline to regulate how much water is actually fed to the skimmer. Bigger always isn't better. Alot of these companies that pop up on the market with their skimmers making these claims are alittle crazy IMO. There is a real science behind he design of skimmers. Take a look at the big guns of the skimmer market, Bubble King, Deltec, ATB, Octopus, and look at their designs and look at some of the other stuff these companies are throwing up there......Not even close.....Not saying you have to spend $3000 on a skimmer, but look at body design, style, collection cup size, neck of skimmer, pumps being used, wattage being consumed, air ratio pulled by pumps, these all affect the performance of a skimmer.

I hate this stuff
It's so hard to try to figure this out with pics on the internet.....I think it's easier if you have the item face to face LOL...
I'll keep looking and thinking about this.....another thought was a side tank...like a 10G next to the sump to run the skimmer thru.....BUT not sure how to plumb it ...or if that is a feasible idea or not

ACRYLIC....I can not locate the pic you are talking about...of your MRC...can you repost it so I can show my husband

THANKS

Very feasible to do.......I know it's alot of money on a quality skimmer, but the skimmer is more important than lights......

Look at some good skimmers......ATB, Octopus, Deltec, ASM, EuroReef, MRC, Geo, BubbleKing
. Just look at their size of the skimmers.....Not for the mere fact of will it fit in my existing space, but looking at the specs of quality skimmers will give you an honest idea of what body dimensions, height, quality pumps and air numbers that real manufacturers put out......

LOL...My husband said get what I want and he will plumb it...LOL....We saw some pics of the MRC's that were pvc plumbed....
SOOOOO...Should I get the MRC-2
It's rated for up to 300G's
NEXT QUESTION....It says it needs a mag18 to run it???????? So my 1000 gph pumps would be no good? :(

Wow.......I'm not recommending a power hungry skimmer even though I use one on my 240......I will repost a pic of my MRC3 dual beckett recirc skimmer, but there are more energy efficient, and actually more efficient skimmers out there currently. No they need pressure rated pumps to drive the becketts and MagDrives aren't pressure rated.....I have a friend who did run his on a Mag, and he wasn't pleased with performance that way.....

I must advise these skimmers need constant attention and tweaking....they aren't a plug and play and forget..... The first pic is a PanWorld pressure rated pump. The following pics show the turbulence inside the reaction chamber and foam head.

If I was in the market for a new skimmer, which I will be shortly.....My skimmer of choice and where I'm looking is the cone style skimmer, and my money is leaning towards the Octopus Extreme with the Blaster pump......

OK...YOU ARE KILLING ME HERE!!!!!! SOOOO...what would you recommend as a good, efficient, skimmer for me? THAT I can plumb into my system.....
ORRRRR would it be better to do the side tank idea????? I also have a 5G I could use that is acrylic...I would rather use that one.
I think we could build a small table for it so the water level would be equal.....and then drill a hole in the 5G...and the sump I have now....and put plumbing between the 2 .....this sounds wierd..LOL....But do you see where I am going with this

Octopus......again skimmers are personal choices and some are more forgiving than others......The MRC needs your attention. Plus you have the added expense of a pump, and monthly increase in electric. Octopus is far more efficient, and better numbers across the board.....Google Octopus skimmers and you'll see the array of skimmers to suit your needs....ATB is another, ASM could/would work, heck even a trusty EuroReef, Deltec. I'm just trying to point out that look at the better made performing skimmers, and compare body style, size, pumps, etc.....to give you an idea as far as space needed, and that alot of the skimmers out there on the market, aren't what they say they are.

LOL...Do you like the ASM G-4........I think somehow...one way or another.....some mod of my system is gonna have to be done
My husband just keeps saying...Just get it..I'll make it work...LOL
I myself....have a head ache now
