Rylan, I always research my positions... Here are Powell's words:
"I stand before you tonight as an African American. Many people say to me, ‘You became Secretary of State of the USA, is it really necessary to say you are an African American, or that you are black?’ And I say yes, so that we can remind our children. It took a lot of people struggling to bring me to this point in history. I didn’t just drop out of the sky, people came from my continent in chains.”... “There’s no reason a new Africa can’t be created right here and now"...
Let's change the words around:
I stand before you tonight as a White American. Many people say to me, ‘You became Secretary of State of the USA, is it really necessary to say you are a White American, or that you are white?’ And I say yes, so that we can remind our children. It took a lot of people struggling to bring me to this point in history. I didn’t just drop out of the sky, people came from my continent in chains. There’s no reason a new europe can’t be created right here and now..."
That sound appropriate to you?
You should know better to know that you can't change the words around in that fashion... if you want to change it to a woman... than fine... or a Native American than fine... even as a gay person than fine. You are so blinded by misunderstanding its ridiculous... this is not a racist statement... and furthermore "this new africa/europe" idea... is not the United States.. but saying that a new active role in the devolpment of Africa needs to be more of priority. Your comments are not based in history, as Powell's are...
I am glad Powell still knows his roots, where he came from, and the struggle of other people that helped him get to where he is... No one has succeeded on their own... it always takes someone to help you get there.
