We are not, nor ever been, a "Christian" nation.
Where the **** have you been since 1776?
Try reading the The Declaration of Independence.
There may be a few references to GOD in some of our nations documents.

I don't know, how much money have we dumped into africa?
BILLIONS.

http://www.america.gov/st/washfile-e...0.8724481.html
(this article says about 50 billion last year) including private investment.
To say that we aren't doing anything in africa is just rediculous.
The federal govt is giving billions every year. That is a part of a larger plan to give them 25 billion in aid. And that isn't counting the private money through charitable organizations.

This is an interesting article. The guys politics are horrible. But it is an interesting article.

It will be really interesting when Piyush "Bobby" Jindal wins the republican nomination in 4 years.......
From your keyboard to God's monitor. I think he is the one person who could actually unite true conservatives.

Do your own research and see what he means... I don't speak for him, its just my common sense that tells me what he means.
Rylan, I always research my positions... Here are Powell's words:
"I stand before you tonight as an African American. Many people say to me, ‘You became Secretary of State of the USA, is it really necessary to say you are an African American, or that you are black?’ And I say yes, so that we can remind our children. It took a lot of people struggling to bring me to this point in history. I didn’t just drop out of the sky, people came from my continent in chains.”... “There’s no reason a new Africa can’t be created right here and now"...
Let's change the words around:
I stand before you tonight as a White American. Many people say to me, ‘You became Secretary of State of the USA, is it really necessary to say you are a White American, or that you are white?’ And I say yes, so that we can remind our children. It took a lot of people struggling to bring me to this point in history. I didn’t just drop out of the sky, people came from my continent in chains. There’s no reason a new europe can’t be created right here and now..."
That sound appropriate to you?

How much is that really... We we've given a least $10 Billion Afghanistan ... which has a pop of 29,928,987
World Factbook · Encyclopedia · BBC Profile
Africa's pop is 2,308,000,000...
The African population is 99% larger than a country we have given $10 m to. You also are including private investment which could mean a business coming in and investing so they can mine diamonds or drill for oil...

Just to clarify to some folks who may think otherwise, I have absolutely no problem with obama's ethnicity. It is his extreme, far left ideology that I cannot and will not tolerate.
I have simply been stating my opinion that many blacks are indeed supporting him soley because he is black or at least half black.

You should know better to know that you can't change the words around in that fashion... if you want to change it to a woman... than fine... or a Native American than fine... even as a gay person than fine. You are so blinded by misunderstanding its ridiculous... this is not a racist statement... and furthermore "this new africa/europe" idea... is not the United States.. but saying that a new active role in the devolpment of Africa needs to be more of priority. Your comments are not based in history, as Powell's are...
I am glad Powell still knows his roots, where he came from, and the struggle of other people that helped him get to where he is... No one has succeeded on their own... it always takes someone to help you get there.

then stop injecting race... it has nothing to do with why he has the support... If everything was the same, and Obama was white... he'd be ahead by 20 pts... instead of 9 or 10. Historically he would have their support anyway, especially given the contrast in the candidates.
Obama is clearly the smartest person running.

Third, you justify Iraq by overthrowing a dictator who commited genocide...
And I simply believe it is the right thing to do, as a Christian... and for those that aren't as humanitarist... people see Africa on tv and assume its a place that resembles the 1700's... I have met several people from there whom are all very bright.. know muliple languages and are advanced in science and mathamatics... and everything I hear is that life is similar in most cases there as it is here. But they lack the infrastructure to compete on a global level..
Why bring Iraq into it, I don't have to justify it, I didn't start the war.
There are enough home grown parasites right here in America I am taxed to support, I am not looking to adopt more. If the government wants to encourage private investment great. You want to send your money over great. We are giving plenty already. I can give you the name of an Orphanage in Ghana that my sister's church aids who I am sure would love to have your help. I helped fund one of her trips over there. My choice, my money. Don't tell me I have to support anyone.

As I said before Rylan, my ancestors are from Eastern Europe. We were chained, drug from our homeland and forced into slavery before the Africans were. Now, granted, a tragedy that occurred to my ancestors hundreds of years ago isn't relevant today; or is it?
The last part of your statement is exactly what is wrong with our country. People can accomplish great things in our country on their own.

well one key difference is that we are talking about american history, not european... and no one accomplishes anything on their own... someone always is there to help you... regardless if its parents or a mentor, or etc.

Keep riding that horse..
Journey, I've seen you question Obama's intelligence a few times in the past and it always confuses me. Are you honestly suggesting that the guy is not brilliant?
-Editor of HARVARD LAW REVIEW... You may have no idea what this means but it's pretty much the brightest law student in the country, if not the world at that time.
-Constitutional Law Professor... no brains necessary, right?
I don't really care about his political career because, as we all know, politicians can be morons (see Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin, George W. Bush, etc.). If you can disregard the above accomplishments and still suggest that the guy is not extremely intelligent, then it is you, my friend, who appears to lack in that area. Pretty much any bright person, even if he/she opposes Obama, has to admit that the guy is incredibly intelligent. JMO.

There are a lot of countries with issues that I don't think we need to be involved with. Middle Eastern conflicts unfortunately have a bearing on our national security due to our dependance on oil produced there
