i'M TALKING ABOUT RACE AND RACISM IN AMERICA. WE'VE MADE ATTEMPTS. OBAMA AS PRESIDENT WOULD BE THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS ISSUES AND TO IMPROVE THEM. i HERE NO REPUBS EVEN ADDRESSING ANYTHING OF THE SORT.

No you're not. You're talking about slavery and trying to tie it into racism.
The two are very different things. Many people alive today, of every ethnic background, are racist towards other racial groups. I agree that racism is alive today, but electing a man simply because he is black and expecting that to fix anything is delusional. New Orleans has a black mayor and I don't think anyone would argue N.O. is free of racism (in fact a strong case could be made to the fact that the mayor himself is racist). Virginia elected a black governor in 89, has racism ended there?

what would you want done besides elect a man just simple based off the skin tone or heritage he holds? What needs done. Tell us as I didn't know there was a huge problem that needs fixed. So how do we fix things?
Sorry, to elect a person on that merit alone is retarded.
And since you want to get into it, women have been discriminated against "and held down" longer than "black" people. Black men could vote before women could. Black Men had more rights before women. So maybe we should elect Hilary instead to show the world we are passed our sexit demeanor instead.
I can't believe the mentality of some people.....

You don't hear it because your preconceptions don't allow you to listen.

ous Spainard who didn't discover America. You need to get a clue...I also acknowledged the plight of native americans. There were also treaties and deals set up with the gov't and native americans. But I am tired of responding to ignorant statements ... so lets talk about the candidates

The only reason MLK is considered a hero to anyone in this country, is because YOUR RACE put him on that pedestal. MLK was a radical extremist like his buddy Malcolm X. He was just clever by hiding it behind his pacifist ways. Losing my place in America?
The whites lost that years ago. Unfortunately, we can't use the 'race card' like all the rest of the minorities in this country to get what we want.
When I first started working for my company, I had a black (or am I being politically incorrect with this term? Don't want to offend you.) supervisor who was the laziest and most incompotent person I've ever worked for. He always did just enough to look good, and took credit for everyone's work who worked under him. Upper management finally caught on, and demoted him. They wanted to fire him, but they needed to make sure they were justified. Before they could gather that information, he contacted a NAACP lawyer and filed a discrimination lawsuit for his demotion. The company didn't want to fight it in court, and paid the moron six figures to get him to leave. If that were me in the same position, I would have been fired and pushed out the door.
We have a local high school here in San Antonio named Robert E. Lee. Their school symbol was the Confederate flag. It had been that symbol since its inception back in the early 70's. A few years ago, a couple of black students decided to file a complaint with the School Board because they felt that flag reminded them of the Civil War, and their plight with slavery (which the local paper found out neither kid had any relatives in the US during that time, or were slaves). The School Board agreed, and made the school change their symbol.
North or South Carolina had to remove the Confederate Flag from their State flag for the same reason.
Kids have gotten suspended from school for having a Confederate Flag on their clothing.
Southern state governments have had to remove statues of Robert E. Lee so as not to offend the blacks in this country.
The University of Texas School of Law got sued a few years back because it was found that white applicants who had higher GPA's and LSAT scores than the same minority applicants, were denied entrance because the school wanted to keep its 'minority quota'.
The State of Arizona got blackmailed by the NFL because they refused to observe MLK Day as a state holiday. The NFL told the State to either change it, or they wouldn't get the Super Bowl promised to them the next year. Arizona complied.
Watch virtually any NFL or NBA game. Whose the minority on those teams?
Your right Rylan. I do have some gripes...

There are still countries practicing slavery today. All the European nations that like to look down their noses at the US practiced it a lot longer than we did.

Women were not killed for trying to vote or by helping people to vote. Unconstitiotional poll taxes....The murder of voting-rights activists in Philadelphia, Mississippi, along with numerous other acts of violence and terrorism.. just for the right to vote... Have you heard of the Voting Rights Act of 1965?
Second I am not choosing Obama because of his skin color...I never said this, He simply in my eyes and many other americans seems to be the president that would best lead this county for at least the next 4 years. Iwould never vote for someone based on the way they looked or gender. I want you to vote for the person who you feel will best lead this country.

You can't be serious... why are there hardly any blacks playing in the NHL...must be racists.... get real guy.... your whole take is base(wacky..out of center..etc)
Confederate flag is simply imo anti-american not to mention a symbol of racial injustice...why can't you just let it go and move on?

if loosing your place as a white male means that america is more equal for women and minorities than that is a good thing. He was clever... huh? Sounds to me that you hold Robert E Lee as a hero and not MLK...If this is true than you have that right; however, most americans would view that as a racist belief...I am not judging you...but I would bet 85-90% ofpeoplewould agree.
I guess you could consider than extremist because they were against the establishment of racism in america. Jesus was considered an extreme radical in his day too. Point is that in days passed by...we know their messages were truth. Malcom X changed his views as he learned more about the world in large...He admitted he was basically brainwashed and later renounced his view of all whites being devils and his militant approach. I would encourage you to listen to his last speech...very enlightening and what was said holds true today.

Man! How did I miss out on this thread. It's too long to read now but man did it take a turn somewhere.
I will throw in my two cents. I'm pretty familiar with the history of country and I believe progress has been made since I was a kid 30+ years ago. Things are not perfect but they are better. Now everyone is prejudice to a certain extent. If you say you aren't you are either fooling yourself or lying.
Now what really gets to me is the forced diversity training I have to take every damn year at work. I don't have a problem with being exposed to diversity but when I have to go to training year after year after year, it gets to the point where I feel like it is being shove up my rear and I'm pretty tired of it.
I feel like I'm a decent person and I try to treat everyone fair, but I'm as a diverse as I'm going to get. Making me attend training every year is starting to have the opposite affect from what it is intended to do.

Watch out here comes another "misquote".

lol, you right, Republicans, Bush don't cater to "black causes."

How many "african-american" secratary of states were their before bush? The simple fact Bush has had more minorities in high offices than any other president. Not because they were woman, black brown or whatever, but because they were qualified. I'm not interested in sweeping history under the rug. I really like the Jews approach to negative history in their past. You learn from the past. Not blame the past for your failures today. But if we want to get rid of racism, then we simply have to be color blind. In my mind I couldn't give a flying
that barrack is black, I do have a problem with him being a US congress man for only 3 years.
