Sick Doggie

Black tar is digested blood. Probably from the original problem with the bowel infection. If she is passing real soft stools you might consider cottage cheese or american cheese. these usually help form up the stools. You might even need some 'probiotics'...I use the vanilla yogurt called 'Activa' to try to replace the 'good' bacteria if she continues to have loose stool.
Amounts: 1 slice american cheese every 4-6 hours or 1 tablesppon cottage cheese
If you need yogurt also..about a tablespoon also

Probably stress. Is she walking around aimlessly panting? Or settledown and sleeping? Basically what you should expect is that while she is sleeping more than usual and fatigues easily with even normal levels of exercise...like going outside to use the bathroom...she should be arouseable and show signs she is alert...watches you go to the kitchen, wags her tail, is responsive when you talk to her.
If she was a well house trained dog before she will be back to normal in a day (bathroom wise). She probably had no bowel movements her entire stay...combination of it not being her home, very little food intake and low exercise levels.

she is panting some, but laying at my feet.....if I get up, she gets up, she follows me everywhere....LOL....so she is very attentive.... to me anyway
They did say she had not gone the whole time, so she must be cleaning out her system tonight.....hopefully like you say she will be closer to normal is a day or so

LOL, aren't they grand!
I'm still so glad you have her back home with you! I'm sure you won't sleep much tonight as you'll keep checking on her, LOL.
Aren't you glad you're not in NY, what two weeks cost you, I've paid for 1 vet visit!

Yeah...sad to say if I were ther I doubt I would have been able to afford it :(
YEAH...I'm glad she is home, but this night has been hard.....and painful (for me) LOL....this is my mouse finger
Her and Rosie have a large bed in our bedroom they usually sleep on..BUT JIC...I put a nice fluffy towel right by the side of my bed, and something on my husbands side. He is at work, so I told him when he gets home this morning he better check the floor JIC Pixie has an accident...I have peewee pads down, so hopefully either she holds it, wakes me up, or uses the pad (HAH what are the chances of that)

If this happens again, make a loud, startling noise perhaps slam a book on the ground. This should startle them and they should stop. At least Pixie is home.
(I don't pay vet bills. I just pay for meds. I even get my dog a yearly dental cleaning
)

You don't even want to know what I paid when my rat terrier had pancreatitis. Needless to say, I'm still paying off that credit card, it was more than my wedding!
I'm glad she's home, even if she hurt your finger! Don't worry, I'll do the banning tonight, rest your mouse finger, LOL.
With your luck, my money is on her going right at the edge of the pad, half on your carpet, half on the pad, so you can only be half mad at her, hahahaha. Good luck!

I know right? I remember when my dog did this two days before our move date.

I had to take MANY deep breaths!
Well I think your dog will need some time to readjust to being back home. She has been though a traumatic ordeal ...

Well she better adjust fast....LOL...last night not too long after going to bed...I heard a noise in the bathroom....so I get up, andthere is Pixie.....standing up..paws against the shower door and she is peeing....if you saw her, it was kinda (KINDA) funny.....so I took her out...then put a weewee pad in the bathroom too...
SOOOOOO this morning I get up.....all wee wee pads are DRY...BUT she peed on the floor towel in the bathroom, and the carpet right out side the bathroom door

If she ever had to go during the night, she would come up to the bed and stand up right next to me.....until I got up and let her out....IDK what is wrong with her...BUT I sure hope she gets over this FAST.....Hubby is home with her today...altho he is sleeping...LOL....I told him to keep a close eye out for wet spots :( they need to be cleaned immediately......
After today she needs to be told a little sternly I think......could not do it yesterday....the pitiful look on her face was too much to bear :(

She is re-establishing her territory. Dogs are pack animals and they show they belong with a the pack by marking the packs territory with their "scent". After being gone quite a while she was feeling insecure and she wanted to show she belonged. It's pretty standard doggie behavior. At least that what the Animal Planet special on dogs said.

LOL.....Animal Planet .. Well I hope she considers it "marked"
They also told me the steroids make her drink a lot....so therefore she will have to pee a lot...BUT I WOULD RATHER she wake me up!! Hopefull she will either start waking me up at night, or start holding it.....time will tell

My dog did this when he came home. I had to crate him at night for about 10 days until he realized that he wasn't coming out until he stopped peeing in the house. I felt terrible locking him in a crate after he had just been in one.
It could be the steroid, it could just be that she's pissed at you for being stuck at the vets office, lol. Either way, I hope it gets better.

If the urine is dilute (not yellow but clear) it is probably the corticosteroid. If this is the case she is also probably drinking...alot. If she is drinking excessively consider putting less water in the bowel and some ice cubes. That way she can quench her thirst without excessive drinking. The corticostreoids drive them to drink (lots of things drive me to drink..but that is for another thread) and then they need to urinate often. They need to drink but not excessive amounts. If you find she is at the water bowl all the time try the ice cubes....or crate her as has been suggested by other posters.

If you don't want to do the crate, try a small room with the door blocked off with some kind of folding table. Then you can even do some floor protection in the event of mishaps.

Thanks AL.....I will watch the water intake.....You know I keep water in my bathroom for them over night....maybe I need to stop that.....It's just that they (SHE) has never done this before
