The ban has been in NY for years and most bars still find ways to accomodate their smoking customers. The ban isn't intended to encourage people to quit smoking. The goal is to protect those who choose not to smoke from those that do. There is no reason why a family should be afraid to go out to eat in fear that their young children will have to breathe your second hand smoke. If you are so against the ban... make a TV dinner.

Thank you for expressing my thoughts better.

This is the point I was getting at.

I am not going to get in to details but you need to ask a dermatologist. They pimples are caused by clogged pores and not because of food. You clog your pores by makeup, oil from your face, hands, etc.

Should the government also ban cars, which not only result in air polution (health and environmental impacts), but are the reason that people who drink and drive can actually hurt someone.
It is carrying the logic to its extreme conclusion, but nonetheless....
Fast food hurts many "second hand" because it can be tied to poor health, and thus increase in insurance costs. People also eat and drive at the same time, causing accidents.
I'm torn on this issue, to be honest. I grew up with a smoker and do have a chronic cough. But at the same time, I believe in the free market. If restaurants want to cater to smokers, they should be allowed to...and I just won't go.
Its a tough call, in my opinion. I find it odd that some of the taxes on alcohol, cigarettes and the lottery go to support education and worthy causes. Would this not obligate people to participate?
There are some strange laws out there to protect people. But I think we need to be careful in what slippery slope we get on. JMO though.

They do punish drunk drivers. You blow a .08 in NY you get arrested. It's just something that's hard to enforce. There just isn't a cop on every road watching for drunk drivers, and unfortunately they aren't usually cought until they cause an accident. What could be done, ban alcohol? Why would it work this time?
Are you suggesting they're punishing smokers? If they want to smoke, they are still allowed to do so outside. The ban does not take the cigarette out of their hand.

Drunk driving is illegal. Your point is moot. This is a BAN on public smoking. It is bad for the public so it is illegal. Drunk driving is dangerous and therefore illegal. They do punish drunk drivers... I hope you never have another experience with another drunk driver. However, if you should, I suggest you find an attorney so they can explain to you that not only is drunk driving illegal, in no way should you be paying for any damages.

absolutely 120% support the smoking ban. we just had ours shot down here and i'm furious. i can't go to bars where the smoke is heavy because my asthma's been getting a lot worse now so why is it fair that i have to give up my social life because you have a disgusting habit that you can't walk 20 feet out the door and do??? it's just plain courtesy and respect in my opinion. and to think it's going to get blown out of proportion is absurd. all i'm asking is that if you need to smoke do it in an area that is affecting the rest of us. it's bad enough i have asthma from my mother smoking when she was pregnant with me and am suffering from it, but now i can't even go out and have a decent meal or go to happy hour with some coworkers without having a reaction, or worse, an attack??

In the kitchen area it's hot, which causes excess sweating which in turn causes the acne. Don't you jus want a cheeseburger now, yum.

in addition that, there have only been 2 foods proven to cause acne - cheese and peanuts - and the reasoning behind it are the oils produced. touching your face a lot causes acne no matter where you work. you're transmitting oils from your hand and dirt and grime that you come in contact with to your face and it just sits in your pores and builds up. kids who work in the fast food industry generally are broken out because of the grease from the fryers and what not that blow in their faces - not b/c they eat the food all the time.

I think a smoking ban is a good thing.
As an X-ray Technician I see what it does to people that smoke.
As for drinking and driving you don’t have to blow a 0.08 in NC to get a dui
If you are in an auto accident you blow any thing you get charged with a DWI I know this I have been hit by one.

As an X-smoker I actually agree with the smoking ban in public places. It amazes me now that I have stopped how much it actually effects you. I hate going into a bar now and smelling like an ash tray when you leave and can hardly breathe the next day. However, I believe that if say a bar or restaruant wants to have a well ventilated deicated smoking room then they should be alllowed. The laws have always been your right to do something stops when it effects me(took some liberties on that one
) but if smokers are making an honest attempt and comprimising then I think they should be allowed to smoke.

I agree 100% with the decision.
I can't believe they post-poned it because it was supposed to be in effect the beginning of this year but was turned over after march. IT just isn't fair to the nonsmokers. I couldn't even Imagen being a nonsmoker working at a restaurant or bar and having to deal with all that smoke day in and day out. After all the testing and studies, we know second hand smoke is almost just as bad as smoking and the risks associated with it, it should absolutely be banned to smoke public. I still can't believe people smoke! Especially after all the knowledge we now know about it, and for being an 'intelligent' species, its quite pathetic i think.

If we really care about peoples health we need to get rid of everything destructive to us

1 step at a time.. and smoking is by far the WORST so lets not get too carried away. Alcohol doesn't effect the person next them does it? Smoking harms innocent bystanders thus should be banned to the public because it isn't fair to put others at risk.

This whole debate is stupid...Sorry guys but it is.
Everyone here feels their "health rights" are violated by smoking or not being able to smoke....Bottomline is this., You have choice.
Here in New Mexico they banned smoking in public places unless they had proper ventilation...all kinds of restrictions are in place. You know what? If I want to smoke when I go out I only go where I can smoke. For those of you whiners that don't want to smell smoke. DON'T GO TO THE BARS OR RESTAURANTS THAT ALLOW SMOKING!!!. YOU HAVE A CHOICE.
Before all the bans there were many restaraunts and bars that didn't allow smoking....what? These weren't good enough for you. For the smokers, stop complaining and go outside and suck one down in five minutes...it is a small fraction of your life. For the non smokers, find a different bar or restaraunt and stop complaining as if you had no choice in the issue before.
Christ, people complain about the dumbest crap.
And I am sorry, the debate between alcohol and cigarettes to innocent bystanders is stupid, as well. No one ever smoked a cigarette and then went into a nicotene rage and killed or beat someone...how much domestic violence and violence in general is alcohol related?..How many bar fights occur across the country each night? ....Go to a smoke shop and not one single person ever fights because of cigars, cigarettes, or pipes...ignore the dwi and dui aspect, that aspect alone is worth a ban on alcohol over smoking...but yet again, society has proven to be mental retards when it comes to what is TRULY a detriment to society and a danger.......
Oh and I smoke and drink......ALOT!

Boohoo, work somewhere else then. I don't hear the marching band mantra for health taking up the plight of the metal finishing worker...every chemical they handle, work around and breath in, is a cancer carcinagen....75% of metal finishing employees die from cancer.....
Give me a break.

Wrong, 75% of restaurants and 90% of major restaurant chains were smoke free areas before most smoking bans. You can't tell me there isn't any restaurants where you live that aren't smoke free....
