Maybe if you post a picture and description in the ID section one of the vets can identify it. That's super strange that it goes away and then comes back. Keep us posted on what you find out.

So I think what was happening is something was merely cropping some of the alage overnight on the top of the rock, and then it was growing back during the next day. Since I removed all of the algae yesterday afternoon there is currently none back. YAY! We'll see how that goes over the course of the week.
In other news, I helped my buddy take down his 75 gallon and got a couple of pieces of new live rock with some mushrooms on em. Very cool sculptured pieces with nice corraline growth :)
Also got a new frag (yellow and green zoa) when we traded the bulk of the live rock back into a LFS.

Tank Update:The Cyano has not come back on the rock with the mushrooms since I manually got rid of it. I have noticed a small amount on my sand. To combat this, I removed the mechanical sponge filtration that my nano came with and made a media rack with some filter fabric that I can change out more frequently. (I figured the sponge may have been holding detritus and food and keeping the phosphates up?) I also removed bioballs for the same purpose about a week ago.
I am considering getting phosban or redirecting my flow if the cyano on the sand doesn't clear (at the moment its only about 1 sqaure inch in the corner). May do a five gallon water change today instead of my usual 2.5-3.
Here's an updated stock list;
Updated livestock list:
4 nassarius snails (1 died, found an empty shell)

5 red legged hermits
4 turbo snails (and a ---- load of little ones)

1 flame shrimp
1 emerald crab
1 torch
blue clove polyp colony
colony of orange/brown zoos(smaller than normal, haven't id'ed yet)
colony of purple zoos(smaller than normal, haven't id'ed yet)
colony of green zoos (smaller than normal, haven't id'ed yet)
a fire and ice zoo cluster
small colony of eagle eyes (or whatmmin' watermellons)
colony of cocos (or twilight pinks or zoot shoots, not sure)
picked up some yellow/green zoos and some red/pink zoos

Some Paly's that have been multiplying like crazy, I started with three in seperate locations in the tank about 3 weeks ago, now I have at least 8.
mushrooms:
some beige ones with lime green high lights
purple/green ones
FISH: 1 false percula
Six Line Rasse

Red FireFish

Love the rock formation. Would you mind letting me know where you got your live rock from? I'm starting a 24 nano as well and just in the cycling stages.

Hey Cr8stine. There's a good store for live rock in Fountain Valley, Southern California. Where do you live?
How is your cycle going? How far into are you?

That's great! I am actually close to Fountain Valley. Im located in HB. What's the name of the store? I'm in day 3 of my cycle and starting the addition of live rocks to finish everything out. Can't wait to start adding stuff.. Your tank is looking like it starting to progress well!

Thanks for the compliment, I'm stoked on the tank :)
I got premium fijian live rock from Pacific Reef in Fountain Valley....
its about 7.99/ lb. (I bought a package with my nano, so I didn't actually have to pay that price) cause 24 lbs would be REALLY pricey.
You may wanna get a couple of the premium rocks with a few cheap base rocks.
I live in Huntington too. There's another store off beach and atlanta that has decent live rock.

Ok, so heres some of my less photogenic zoas I've been having a hard time getting clear shots of. Patience finally paid off, and lots of memory space on my camera!

First off the purple and blue zoas with my fire and ice cluster....

Next up heres an orange zoa cluster. I think this was my second purchase, they've kind of gone crazy. yay!

Next the progress on my rock pillar, I wanna have it covered eventually. Some of them are whamming watermelons and I' haven't determined the yellow and green or the red and pnk ones yet

Helped a buddy clean out his 75 and he gave me this sick pillar full of mushrooms.

Lemme know what you guys think

looking very nice. the "yellow and green" zoas are radio active dragon eyes and the first pic doesn't look like fire and ice (sorry). I like the column, it makes your tank unique which is always a good thing :)

So besides the sweetlips passing this last weekend. The tank is dong very well. My false percula clown seems to be ok with the tank to himself. He wanders ALOT, which is actually kind of fun to watch. H will never stay in the same place unless I'm in front of the tank, then he'll be right in front of me :)
In other news, I got furloughed at work today :( So I'm getting a 20% pay cut, in lieu of more people getting laid off. So its a good and bad thing in some respects. Unfortunatley thats alot of my hobby money. So I guess its a good thing I have a decent tank started and can just let it grow a bit )
One of my coworkers may have to get rid of his 75 w/ a 55 sump due to electricity purposes, I'll let ya guys know if he needs a home (I wouldn't be able to pick up the extra electricity now either)

Where do you work?
And very nice tank by the way!!

Danky: Thanks I like the mushies too. I'll PM you with the locations again that I've bought most of my zoas.
Reefer: I thought it was similar to radioactive dragon eye, but in comparison to my other radioactive dragon eyes (see message#64), they are much more yellow rimmed in real light. Maybe just because of tank height and light exposure? Anyways thanks for the input.
ls244: I work as a project engineer at a structural firm in Irvine. Are you in the field? Not trying to spread the fact were slow, so PM me if you really wanna know where.

I have a few friends who are locomotive train engineers. And they were on the f-low board for quite some time now. Thats why I asked, thought you might work there as well.

So here's an update. While trying to convert my center chamber for my nano into a refigium something shorted on the submersible light and killed my hood lighting transformer. It started smoking.
So I'm in the process of deciding whether to buy a new transformer or to buy new lighting (there's effectively nothing wrong with my lighting or fan or hood, just the exterior fixture).
Anyways, cleaned my tank today and rearranged the rock work a little bit. Will take some pictures in a while, and keep you guys updated on what I'm going to do with my lighting.

Got a few questions for you:
1. Did that dual return head come stock when you got the cube, if not where did you get it?
2. Where did you get certified for scuba, and what part of laguna do you go out in? (my gf loves to snorkel there)
3. Does your wrasse punk your clown?

Excellent excellent news. I got a new ballast. So the tank is back up and running with full lighting!

In additi onI picked up a Nano Glo for my refugium, since I already got some chaeto over the weekend.
So I propped my chaeto up in the water column on some egg crate and scraped off the back of my nano sticker. The 4 led JBJ lighting magents on similar to the magnet cleaners. So all the lights are exterior and only take 4 watts!
Will post the pictures momentarily. Along with the slightly revise rock layout.

Got a few questions for you:
1. Did that dual return head come stock when you got the cube, if not where did you get it?
The stock tank came with a single fanned return. The typical plastic components of pump outputs have loc-line, which can be purchased at any fish store, typically behind the counter. I also have a Y and two fan outputs. Get like 6 individuals lock line links at least.
2. Where did you get certified for scuba, and what part of laguna do you go out in? (my gf loves to snorkel there)
I got certified at the HB Sport Chalet. Speaking of which I went diving yesterday in Laguna, it was sick. Saw a school of bat rays, around 4-5 feet wide, maybe 20 or so (mating season I think). Also saw a 3.5 foot leopard shark. Rare on the coast, usually see em in Catalina.
3. Does your wrasse punk your clown?
My wrasse punks everyone but my clown. My clown was the oldest tank inhabitant, everyone is chill with him.
