but SOME
people on here are haters and go for the throat, but thats only been one person so far everyone else is really nice and VERY helpful. But yeah I'm doing great right now and can't wait for when I'm a few years down the line with more money
and more experience.
What do you have in your tanks right now?
I said Im glad the tank is doing well and told you it's normal to want to add, add, add, but be careful because after 13 weeks you are probably past max fish capacity and some of the crabs may not be reef safe...and that makes me a "hater?" Feel free to enlighten me on why you feel I am "hating." I guess you're saying Im "hating" on your boyish good looks??? Cause I can't see how "hating" could be applied to reefkeeping. Well actually, I would probably "hate" on you if you lived next door to a reef in Australia and got everything for free. But simply going to the LFS 3x a week isn't exactly reserved for the special, initiated ones among us. We have all done that at one point.
Hmmm, it's gotta be the good looks thing...cause I can't seem to "hate" someone for quickly stocking a tank. It just doesn't muster any strong, negative emotion at all...

Taco...your tank looks great. That being said, your future coral stock list looks like it could fill a 125! What are your plans when all these corals grow out/up? I have a 24 too and can' imagine all that....I also wanted "it all right now" but hesitated and boy am I glad I did. What I have has tripled its size and don't have room for anything(well maybe 1 more). But seriously, I think u need a bigger tank before acquiring a bigger garden! JMO
well said. he must be one of them dang haters too!

I'm sorry but seems like your waiting for my tank to crash so you can say "I told you so."
I've also looked at other posts by you on other threads and people seem to respond in the same manor that I have.
I really don't have time to get mad or hurt over your comments, I like to keep things positive including my thread.
So thanks for stopping by again
. I'm glad to see you think this was about "I guess you're saying Im "hating" on your boyish good looks???" and "Hmmm, it's gotta be the good looks thing" Thanks I usually only get that from my girlfriend
. As for the stock list thing if you read any further those are "forsure" things I want to get not things I WILL have unless I do get a bigger tank but thats something I will do in the future. I do like to dream of what I could have, I'm pretty sure the majority of us do.
Happy Holidays!!

So an update on my starfish. Yeah I am pretty sure that the first one was in the process of dying when I got it. This one is doing great, I know my water quality has to be decent because I spotted the other star again and found a new one I'll have to get a pic of it for an ID. It may be a bad star looks like the Asterina but has one long arm and is not so pink its more of an off white color. I'm going to a birthday party right now so I will try to get a pic later.

Star update:
Compare the two stars
First star after one day

Second star after two days

So yeah I am almost 100% sure the first one was jacked up before I even made the purchase.
So thats a relief

I've been wanting to do my refugium for a while now, so tonight while going over nissan's thread on fuges I decided to draw up my own diagram. I am probably going to get evrything I need and do it the 21st because thats when my last final is
Thank god that'll be over!!
OK here it is:

Looking at other peoples' drawings on here was sort of confusing as to how things should be placed and how they are contained. So I have some questions for you fugers out there as to if I have it drawn out right and if I am picturing it correctly in my head.
1. For the filter floss, should I make (out of egg crate) or purchase some sort of platform suspended by a hook so it lays flat like it is in my pic? If not how should it be placed in cell 1?
2. Should the chemipure elite and purigen go into those fibery bags, and what are those bags even called? "Filter media bags"? And should they lay on the bottom of the tank or should that also be layed flat on top of the filter floss and on each other like a deck of cards or should I have shelves for each bag of stuff so they are seperated with room between them?
3. Is that how your supposed to do the chaeto cup? Cut probably 8-10 holes the size of a dime and is a disposable plastic cup ok (you know the ones you use for a party, preferably clear right)?
4. Filter media stuff: a) ok so filter floss changed every 1 or 2 weeks right? b) how often is it I change the chemipure elite and purigen (I know I do them at the same time) c) you can bleach you purigen and reuse it? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen!
5. I was told a while ago to put a little calcium block in the back 2nd cell which I did, should I keep it there with the chaeto, remove it, or move it to another cell?
I think thats all the questions, I know its alot but if you guys could answer them you'd really be helping me out. For the light I will be doing the mag light probably, unless I can find one that could just be dropped in the tank without having to modify the tank. Palm light is an option but I would have to make a box for it as the tank is right next to my bed and it would keep me up all night (I plan on keeping it on 24-7).
Oh maybe one more question should I take my surface skimmer off or leave it on? And lets say I get all my supplies for the fuge in one day and am ready to install. After turning off the pump I remove sponge filters, bio balls, ceramics, and carbon bag. I put all the stuff in the picture into the back, this won't cause any problems will it? Removing all the bacteria that has grown grown on my old filter stuff won't cause their to be a lack of bacteria will it?
Ok I think I can stop the interrogation

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!

I'm still going to use both, water quality can only get better.
Nissan, Troy, NikeSB, SteveDave, Asharp13, fretfreak13, Katsafado, Socal, DeMartini, and whoever else has had a nano (meowzer you have a nano right?) I am calling you out! What do you have to say on my fuge post???
Thanks!!

LOL...I have a standard 29G...no fuge...
I would put sand, and some small pieces of rock in the section with the chaeto....and why the cup? YOu just need to put a little divider wall on the bottom to hold the sand in
IDK about using all those chemicals...I just recently put chemipure-elite in my 225G...BUT I put it in a canister filter I have (I have 2 canisters that I run for flow only)

Well the cup is just any easier way of doing it I guess, it contains the chaeto while the holes allow flow to go through it. I could put sand in the cup with some LR rubble with the chaeto or use a more boxy shaped container.
See if I make a wall (which I don't want to do because its modifying the back) to hold sand and LR rubble how is any flow getting to it? I guess bacteria will grow on it but will it really do much? And isn't the chemipure elite going to just be a replacement for the activated carbon I have in the tank now, while the purigen is just adding to improve water quality?

IDK anything about the purigen
Here is a pic of my fuge for the 225...This is an old pic, BUT I think you can tell what I did...on mine, the protein skimmer is on the left..the fuge middle, return on the right, I built that wall on the right to hold in the sand and other stuff...the wall is about 2" in from the other wall...therefore the water flow goes over this wall...and then under the other to the return

Dude, I'm planning on doing it the same way you are in the diagram. Nice job on that btw. I was planning on only doing chemipure elite and I'm going to use a cup or other conatiner that may fit for the chaeto. I am going to put miracle mud at the bottom of whatever container I use along with some LR rubble from my large tank.
I was thinking and was worried about the same thing you were though, as far as removing the existing bio-balls, etc. My idea is I'm probably going to leave some bio balls in there for a couple of weeks while the new stuff gets a good amount of bacteria established on it. This leads me to my next idea which was instead of a plastic cup to use a small terra-cotta ish ceramic pot to put the mud and chaeto in. With more of a porous surface I think it would be beneficial for bacterial growth.
Off on a different tangent (bacteria related, that's why I thought of it) that has no relation to this post or posters at all; I've never understood people that go out and pay for LR and then go home and scrub the living poop out of them in RO water. You just killed the "live" part. Might as well go out and break up a bunch of cinder blocks and put those in your tank.

Well maybe I will think about making a wall I guess.

Well I'm glad you think what I am doing will work, are you just going to have the chemipure elite in a bag like me? The ceramic pot is a great idea but you will have to get a light that over hangs the chaeto, if you find one or know of one let me know. Is miracle mud better then putting live sand in?
Oh and for the LR scrub down, yeah I don't get that either %%

looks great. cut some holes on the cup so the chaeto can get flow and your set. sorry i didnt reply bro!
if anything email me xmods577@yahoo.com
looks great. remember get chemi-pure elite and purigen.
the rest looks great!
Ok thanks I consider you an authority on nano fuges,
can I have the chemi pure elite and purigen in bags just on the bottom of cell #1 or should they be suspended on a rack? and should I do that with filter floss?

i would leave the floss so that the water can flow through. then have the chemi-pure in chamber 1 and purigen in chamber 2 next to the chaeto.
and thanks bro means alot to me
