It is there, why not try it see what happens. If nothing else people will be impressed.
Don't want to freak out the fishys though.
I like the moon cycles, the ability to ramp up and down the intensity of the LED' for sunrise sunset the best. If you think about moon cycles, this is when the coral time their spawning events to. At the least, good food for the tank.

Actually put the light on today. Had a Drs. appointment and did not go back to work afterwards.
I am not happy with the spread of light currently but I knew this would be a concern. Wanted to get the light first to see if it was going to be okay, but alas, no. So I have a few ideas in mind to raise the module up a little to get additional spread. Now it is off to the local big box hardware store(s) to get the needed supplies.
I cannot tell you how wonderful this fixture is though. There are 8 "bulbs" , 2 rows of 4 lights. Each "bulb" has a white, blue and a royal blue 3 watt Cree led in it. Each color is controlled separately with dimming from 0-100 %. 14 user defined timers. So you can do just about any combination you want to. The timers allow the LED's to ramp up to you preset intensity over a time period you define. Want the whites to come on at 8am, ramp up to 50% intensity and take an hour to do so........set it and forget it! Same with ramp downs at night.
Actual moon cycles are in the controller. You set todays time and date, tell the light to control the moon cycles and it will adjust the blue light combinations the way the actual moon will shine outside. If no moon visible in tonights cycle, no light in the tank. Full moon outside, 3% intensity on some combination of the blue and royal blue bulbs in the tank. Think coral spawning cycles here.
Amazing!!!!

Good deal, can't wait to see pics and catch updates on how well the livestock does under them. What are your plans for building a rig to raise it?

I have the standard tank mount. It is about 3" off the water surface now and set at 90 degrees to the front panel.
I am gonna get some 3/4 inch square aluminum tube and put it on top of the tank mount. This will raise the light another almost 2" but also allow me to put the light parallel with the front panel. Holding the fixture like that at that height will give me the coverage I want both side to side and front to back.

After I get it set on the tank where it is covering the way I want it to. Forgot to mention, did a thunderstorm. It is pretty cool to watch. The light starts to dim just like cloud cover coming in over the reef. Then random flashes of different intensities of the white light. Sometimes two in a row of different intensities, other times 20 seconds to a minute in between flashes. Some are really intense. You can set how many you want to have in a day, what percent chance you want there to be that there even will be one. I have it set now for 1 per day at a 24% chance that there will be one. I wonder what affect lighting flashes have on the coral if any.

That's kind of neat with the thunderstorms and random cloud cover. I've only seen it in video but it looked pretty cool. I've read some reports that people say you shouldn't do that as it's bad for the LED's but haven't been able to find any info that truly confirms or disprove this.

So I take it that the fixture comes with some type of programable controler. Are you able to set it to do a thuderstorm say, O'...maybe like three times a month and let it go on it's own or do you have to turn the random storm generator on and off manually?
