ok, i picked up the angel today, i LOVE HIM, eating already:D
only problem is, my lion went craxzy at him,
i dont know whats wrong with the lion, but when i put him in, the lion went up to him and actually went to eat him? the angel is bigger then the lion, but the lion went to bite him.
didnt do any damage, but im now considering gettin rid of the lion, he is causeing me so much hassle, i may get a puffer down the line if i get rid of the lion.
hmm, that's interesting. I thought lions really weren't aggressive fish, just ate whatever fit in their mouth and left everything else alone.

yeh i know, thats wat ive always been told, i think mine was just odd.
i went to my LFS and they gave me some bags to put him in so later on today i may go down and give him to them.
i dont have to money to keep gettin live food, i buy 10 feeder shrimp and try keep them in a separate tank but they keep dieing, they get caught in powerheads and filters and die.
so yes i may get a striped dogface with a trigger instead of a tang or something along these lines.
dont think i'll be buying anymore fish for a couple months tho. i need to buy my halides soon.
i think maybe end of april i could get another fish.

ok i havent taken back the lion yet. i really dont know whether i want to.
he hasnt seemed to be aggresive again, if he does it again i will take him back but if not then i might not.
i decided NOT to go for black sand. no point spending the extra cash for it. so instead i bough some coral sand, 1mm, 50kg of it. should be enough.
it comes sometime next week.
i only had the tiniest bit in there with a lil bit of LR so it could cycle

ok i put my lion in my 10g for some solo time, also the size of that tank should help me get him onto frozen, he's just 4" so he should be ok untill i can get him into the DT:D

I'd PM Cranberry and see what she thinks about a lion in that small of a tank. The size of the fish isn't as big of a deal as the bioload they produce when it comes to lions (from what I've been told), even though they need swimming room as well.

its fine in there, i remember his being in a 5g for a while too.
theres alot of sand and a lil bit of LR in there too which will help filtration, aswell as the filter.
because he's only small there is still plenty of swimming space, and i think he prefers being alone anyway.

ok, im going differently with the stocklist,
i want 2 angels in there now so i dont think im going to have room for any tangs.
so FINAL stocklist will be:
1x volitans
2x clowns
1x emp
1x queen
1x lunare wrasse
1x zebra eel
1x cleaner wrasse.
plus a CUC of snails.
they had the queen in stock so i got it today, i want to add the angels at the same time so aggression is down.
when i put him in the tank the emp went mad at him, but then i put in a divider,
well a temporary one, eg, a bag with holes in to allow flow.
then when i went back to shop to get a proper divider the emp got through the temporary but the two were just swimming together.
then about 30mins ago the emp starting going mad again, so i put the proper divider in.
BOTH angels are eating fine and stuff:)
emp is about 4" long and the queen is about 3" long, the queen is nearly fully changed. emp is just starting to change, top of him starting to go white and his face is fading abit.
i put 10 ghost shrimp in with the lion, he ate 3 or 4 and left the rest, so if he gets peckish soon he can eat the rest if they dont get killed by the powerhead.
overal, things are doing well, the clowns are fine:) love their new home, i bet it feels like the ocean for them!

aha dont worry:) i know but their the only two fish in the QT atm and i wanted to add them at same time so fighting will be a minimum.
queen is pretty beaten up atm, few cuts in the tail, so it will be treated food and isolation untill its better.
any suggestions on wat i should treat with to heal the tail?

Just feed a good quality food designed for angels, frozen is better than pellet or flake, IMO. Supplement with vitamins and garlic.
After my Coral Beauty beat on my Flame, I added vitamins to the food and water and raised the tank temperature up to 80F.

ok cool, thanks,
shall i soak everything in garlic?
i just gave them both a helping of angel formula, the one with sponges, i feed them this twice a week, other times i feed them frozen and occassionally flake.
i like to mix their frozen to i just hack away at some silversides and some cockles and mix it with water and garlic and shuv that in the tank.
i've noticed that they dont really like bigger pieces and they much prefer very small bits they can go at:)
queen is a aggresive eater at first but gets full quickly, but atleast shes eating:)
emp just might aswell be put in the freezer with the food the amount he eats :L
lovely fish tho.
i put my 50kg of sand in today, its like the perfect amount, gives it a 3" sandbed.
i floated the clowns in a bag whilst it settled so the cloudyness didnt harm them, their out now as it only took couple hours to settle.
man i LOVE this project!

I soak all of my food in garlic and vitamins, but I also only feed live, fresh and/or frozen, no pellets or flake. (I do give them seaweed and algae sheets though).

ok cool:) i havent put up algae sheets, is this just me but in my QT, because theres no sand there is no natural filtration, so its covered in algae, and when i do a water change it brings it up and the tank looks disgusting, how can i sort this out?
i acidentally dropped my flakes behind my tank and i cant move something that weighs like 800kg lol
is it bad to give the angels a ghost shrimp now and again as a treat?

To help control the algae, cut back on lighting and pay attention to how much you're feeding vs. how much the fish are eating. Flake and pellets have always caused me to have more algae growth than using fresh and frozen, so this may be an issue for you as well.
As long as your tank isn't in hypo, add some snails to help. If you need to put the QT in hypo, just throw the snails in the DT, that's what I do. But definitely cut back on your lighting.
I would also check your levels (phosphate, nitrate, etc). Usually phosphate causes an algae bloom. You may want to add a phosphate remover (such as phoslock) if its high.
Ghost shrimp are fine as a treat, all of my fish love chasing them.
Definitely get some algae and seaweed sheets. Imo, Angels and tangs should be provided with it at all times, doesn't need to be much, but needs to be there. Remember, angels are grazers, in the wild they graze on rocks for algae all day.
Did you get a frozen cube food designed for angelfish yet?

ok cool i will do, yeh the flakes are annoying to clear up,
i would put snails in but i used it too copper treat not so long ago, will it still be ok?
and yehh i bought some angel formula stuff when i got my blueface.

If you've used copper, skip on inverts.
You're going to need to manually clean and clean often. Get a magfloat, they work great

i can QT in the 10g with the lion, thats not used any copper in, and i dont want to have to manually scrap every little bit in the tank.
cant wait to put the angels in, will be in another month or so, but once there in i'll order a lunare wrasse. then once the nitrates are at like 0.00001 i'll add the lion, i'll get a protein skimmer within this time to hurry the process along.
the lion is starting to grow, he's grown about an inch since i bought him nearly 2 months ago.
when the lion is out the 10g, i want to make it into a tank to allow the shrimp to breed.
there freshwater normally so if i make it tropical they may breed. it'll be a big help if they do:)
one of my friends bought some feeder shrimp and put it in his freshwater tank, all the fish left them alone and one of them laster 3years.
so fingers crossed lol. i will feed them garlic soaked meat to the lion can get some garlic in his system

my lions starting to grow quite considerbly fast.
i had abit of a time feeding him like i would leave him a week without food, then feed him 3-4shrimp, then leave him a week and feeed him 3-4shrimp. i done this for about 3 weeks, then suddenly this week i fed him properly, like 3 shrimp, 3 times a week.
and within this week alone i think he has grown about half an inch?
is this weird?
also, how much LR you think will be a good amount in here? if i do 2 mounds.

I don't know enough about Lions and their growth rates to comment on this.
With the LR, it honestly depends on the shapes of the pieces and how porous they are. Since you're doing a FOWLR, I'd go with what looks good, LOL. I'm sure someone else will have a better per pound answer.

ok cool, i just want the two mounds really, of LR that is lol.
and also for a CUC, you think around 20-30 snails will be enough?
say 10 nassurius.
10 cerith
and 10 turbo?
