trying to quit smoking help

Alright Tobin, I'm here.....
Hi I'm lovecraft, and I'm a smoker trying to quit.....sound like AA?

Anyway, I started with my first pill of Chantix today. I did smoke less at work today, I only brought half a pack to work and I still had 4 left at the end of the day. I usually do a full half at work, or more if it's a really stressful day(10+).
It's chilling here on the computer that gets me...I probably smoke a pack and a half a day.
I've done a lot of research, talked to 2 doc's(1 is a friend), and have many good friends and a number of acquaintences(sp?) that have had succes with this pill. My day I've picked to be done smoking is by August 3rd.

welcome to the realm of non-smokers and future non-smokers sounds like a great 1st day of quitting and bringing your nicotine intake downslowly may or may not be a good idea, not sure well tomorrow do you take 1/2 pack with you or a few less and when you are relaxing at home on the computer eat sunflower seeds they make cigarettes taste like crap so keep checkin in and i'm sure others will chime in jenny is over my shoulder wishing you luck too...tobin

Thanks for the idea on the sunflower seeds, I'll pick some up tomorrow. Thank you too Jenny! I'm pretty sure I'll end the first day down to a pack. I need a slower process I think cause I don't want to be super irritable from a cold turkey start. My wife is pregnant, we got a little boy due around Sept. 7. So I got some GOOD motivations! (and reasons for not wanting to be irritable
)
I plan on checking the thread often and I'm sure you'll hear me b**ching soon enough!

sitting around is hard when your quitting , and driving .there are a few other times *cough cough* that its hard not to have one too, but ive replaced all those times with chugging a glass of water- that actually worked rather well for me . i havent had a smoke since may 21 and seasalt since may 22 except for his cheat which i still harbor resentment for. the withdrawls are over with and my sense of smell is coming back on strong ,which in my town i'm not so sure is a great thing
good luck ,and in the words of rob schneider...' you can do it!'

congrats on the baby!!!! and yes i beleive she will be irritable enough for both of you !

Ain't it the truth? Currently, I'm in the "I'm sooo fat stage", the "my feet are swollen stage", some various stages of laughter and fortunatley, not too much crying.

But I'm waiting to see if the "hide the guns and knives" stage kicks in....

I've found another good reason for having my tank, I do spend less time in front of the computer....except at work of course. I'll have to get back at ya in the morning, gotta be at work early. G'night guys! and thanks again.

All in all OK been fighting some pretty bad cravings the last few days though.
I'm at three weeks now and I've just about stopped clearing the crap out of my lungs.

How are you guys doing?

Glad to hear everyone else is doing well. Kids go back to school tomorrow and I started a new job installing large tanks for people with more money then me, so I guess all is well in my world!

I havnt been smoking nearly as long as the others quiting but I have been smoking for around a year and a half. I was starting to notice the coughing, flem, all that junk so decided to quit yesterday. Went all day yesterday without one and today I havnt had one and dont plan on it. Even for smoking for such a short time i still got really addicted.
Its been hard already with my nerves being shot, but hanging in there. Count me in for quiting. Tobin and others, wish you all the best, you guys are on the right track. Following in your steps.

i wonder just how much $$ the few of us have not given mr tobacco since we quit ?? probably a thousand i'm guessing ok maybe not quite that much but were stickin it to tha(marlboro) man !!
and melee 20 years ago a person that was only smaoking for a year could have quit alot easier than today, they have over the years increased the amount of nicotine in cigarettes- basically every time the price went up from taxes they would add more nicotine...i just found that one out cruising around on the internet on these quit smoking sites and looking at cancer sites
