Updates on new SW tank

well woody I finnaly got my tank up and running I finished building the stand and staining it last week, and worked on the plumbing and everything friday night & saturday, here are 2 shots of the tank I have 2 raw shrimp in there and I am on my way...

Now that looks really GREAT!!
So you built the cabinet? Good job and the stain looks wonderful.
Ok, you're going to have to explain the PVC for me...Do you have any plans that have your layout of the PVC??
If not, could you get a couple closer shots and label them for me?

yes I built the stand as well, I also made sure I built the stand big enough for my 30 gallon sump/refugium I have below it and also so I can upgrade to a bigger tank maybe someday, and that PVC is my closed loop system, I have an OM Squirt hooked up to a velocity T4 pump and what I did was tape out my tank with some tape on the floor and basically dry fit all the plumbing, when I get home I will snap a few shots of my sump and upload them, the plumbing took a long time to do, but I hope it pays off..

Well it does look impressive. Yeah if you have the time, I'd like to see how that looks.
I've been mulling over putting a sump/refuge on my 40 gal, but it's awful confusing. I'm starting to get the grasp of some things though.

Here's our Fire Shrimp, we've named him Tusk after the Arkansas Razorbacks mascot!!

Here's an arista snail. They are very pretty with the two tone colors on their shells.

And after yesterdays revival of George, here's his new home. It's the ten gallon tank that I hurriedly setup yesterday. Today I'll go to my local LFS and get some more LR for the tank.

I have an AC500 mini fuge on the way from a guy in Kansas that I purchased it from. once it gets here I'll slap it on the back and see how it works. I'll get some LR rubble and LS to put in the fuge area, and see just how the mini version works before I start getting into the large scale models.

Ok, got about 7 more pounds of fiji cultured rock, so there's right about 11 pounds in there now.
Now it's just the sit back and watch it cycle game...just like the 40 gallon did.
I'll take a few more snapshots when the tank clears up some more.

OK, I couldn't wait...here's a pic of the 10 gallon with the new live rock.
I moved one piece around and I saw George run from one piece to the next...so he's still in there and seems to be doing much better than yesterday!!!

hey, what does raw shrimp do in a tank? what is the purpose?

The shrimp helps get the cycle of the tank started. As the shrimp decomposes, it releases ammonia into the water, much like damsels waste would do, but I would think at a quicker rate.
That helps start the chemical process that cycles the tank and prepares it chemically for balancing and introduction of critters and fish.
Someone jump in here if I'm wrong or not detailed enough.

Won't know until tomorrow. The LFS we took Gracie to is only open Tues-Thur-Fri nights and Saturdays.
They're a part time operation.

Hey Woody. I've been following your progress for some time and want to say your tank looks great. I have a ? for ya . The lights you have lokk like the ones I just bought and I was wondering what the amount of time you have each seperate cycle on. If I remember right I believe it was you and arkie talking about it but can't find the thread. Anyways keep up the good work and TANKS alot. FISH ON DUDE

We've talked about it. I'm not sure how the two would coincide with each other. I've read a few places where they would fight it out and with the power they have, I'm afraid one wouldn't make it, so I'm not sure if that would be the best idea or not...we're doing some research to see what the best plan would be.
