Henry I just ran a nitrate test (used a stopwatch to ensure accuracy) readings between 0 and 5
I guess US old timers can contribute something once in a while

Henry/Joe.....I am going 'off the reservation' with my vodka dosing by incorporating both Joe's thought that I will probably need 10+ml of vodka daily eventually and Henry's thought that I should not go right to 10ml.
Have started giving an extra 0.5ml daily until I reach 12ml (arbitrary number)or the nitrates start to fall. Currently at 7.0ml. Water clarity excellent, skimmer production darker, no loss of macroalgae or apparent problems with fish/inverts.

.5 mL is probably a safe addition but looking at the chart in reefkeeping magazine those increases should be once per week not daily. Just a FYI here.

IMO see if you can guestamite .25 a day

Update: I am up to 10mls daily in the reef and 7 mls in the FOWLR system.
Nitrates have stabilized at 10ish in reef, still not stable in FOWLR.
I am increasing back at a slower rate now....up 0.5ml/week until I start to see the nitrates drop.

Okay had some problems when the Hot time hit Michigan a while back and we had air conditioner problems.
Lost a few fish and some coral we had been tracking here.

So as of now am dosing;
Prodibio Nano Pack at recommended dosing level
Vodka 5 drops per day
Amino Acids 2 drops per day.
Tore apart refugium in the back chambers as the Chaeto died without nutrients.
Have not noticed any Caulerpa in the display for some time now, keeping fingers crossed.
Water still clear.
No algae buildup on glass, with the exception of that nasty green coralline that you have to jackhammer off.
Have noticed what I can only guess as some type of mulm buildup on the glass occasionally. Easy to wipe off, does not affect water clarity. Hmm.....

I have experienced the same

IMO you will not
Henry what was the max temp your tank reached? Do you know the ambient temp? Did you continue to run heat generating electrical equipment related to your tank?

Yeah Joe was at work. We have a whole house ceiling fan ibut the wife did not think to run it, just opened up some windows. Air temp in the house was in excess of 90 degrees. Tank temps were in excess of 86 degrees, the two original birdnests RTN'd. Lost the mystery wrasse, and the tailspot blenny. Electrical equipment relating to the tank were not shut down, MH on, all pumps power heads were on.
Air is now fixed, have removed a K3 and K1 from the tank = heat removal and installed a Vortech MP10 which has the electrical drive component outside the tank.

So how are you liking the Vortech MP10? They sound great...but a little high priced for my little budget :(

Best mechanical investment I have made so far. Almost infinitely variable in adjustment. I am running on what is called short pulse mode. I can see the top of the water swaying back and forth like a tide. Inside the tank the coral are moving with the "tide" and the fish play endlessly in it.
It runs at a certain speed and pulse during the day and it is set to go into night mode where it runs and 50% of the day mode for 10 hours, then reverts back to full setting power. If you have Korallia powerheads in your tank you know how much room they can take up. The wet side of this pump is small and narrow and takes up little room at all, but one of the most advantageous things about that is there is no heat added to the tank water. The electroincs are outside the tank wall and the wet side attaches to it via a magnet, like how the Korallia powerhead is held in place.

Sounds great......I'll add one to my list...lol...for the 29g....no way would I be able to get any for the other tanks....

A couple of MP40's in that 225 of yours would be a great addition. And at only $410 each, cheap at half the price!!!!!

I put the MP40 (one) in my 54 corner and love it. Have you tried the reef mode? Im back and forth on the two settings. Night mode is a great addition that isnt talked about much. Just would like to hear your opinion.

I had it on reef crest for a while when I first got it. Seemed like where I have it in the tank and my coral being a lot of SPS I was afraid that it was blowing too steadily on them. I like the short pulse so far, but I also like playing with all the settings so who knows where I wll go from here. I also like that you can put it in feed mode and it stays there for 10 minutes and them goes back to the original setting. Well worth the price IMO.
