Good morning...allllll
Henry...one question...would this type of "coralline" have bubbles?
I would be interested to know more about these bubbles if in fact the OP has some. What really is driving my thought away from cyano here is that it cannot be blown off and it was on the rock when he bought it and did not disappear after all of the transferring from place to place.
Also in regards to this statement you made and as some clarification for you in the future
Cyano is not only caused by low flow, it is also high nutrients.
Cyano is not caused
by low flow. The reason we want to increase flow to the infected area is to keep any nutrient from accumulating in that area.

Gonna try to get it off with a turkey baster when I do my water change.
If it did not come off in transport, it is really imbedded. If it is a sponge, it has been exposed to air and will die off on its own. If you want to be really sure of nothing harmful...scrub the rock with a new unused toothbrush (any good bristle brush will do, veggie brush for example) under saltwater.
That will scrub away anything that is dying and stress the coraline to grow. By using saltwater you won't do any harm to the live rock.
They look like lovely pieces, I think it was a good buy.

Nitpicking your selection of word

The main point that it comes down to is that regardless of what it is, if it is not unappealing to look at, if it doesn't kill things (it doesn't), and if it does not grow quickly, then it is not something that is bad to have in your tank.

People don't have to learn from their mistakes when they can learn from the mistakes of others. This is the main think I like to drive into people's heads. If I see someone touch an electric fence and die via being shocked to death, then I am not going to touch it too just to be sure they didn't die of other reasons...
In the same regard, if someone tells me not to touch a fence because it will hurt me, I am not going to do it.

Hey Pez how is your day going today? Better than yesterday I hope.
I think we need to be careful of what we tell new people because they take our words and use them when answering others. This in turn could confuse other new people and proliferate something not necessarily true. I think there is already too much of that going on in the hobby. I have been called on many occasions for misspeaking and hope to be corrected in the future when it is called for, so that I can help to make suggestion that are based in at least some factual data.
Not getting into her case at all.

LOL...YEAH...Look what happened to Roger Clemens when he "mis-spoke and MIS-remembered"

Just so "everyone" knows...I appreciate it when someone gives me meanings(or corrects) me...that means I may have misunderstood something myself...and I sure don't want to mislead another hobbyist....

Yeah, I understand that. What she meant and what she said were two completely different things. Of course you probably realized that and I assume that newer people would not. Then they might hear the word that low flow creates cyanobacteria and spread it to others in the form of "help." Pretty soon we have a full blown myth on our hands

That's why this forum allows more than one person to post on a thread...
I didn't have a bad day at all yesterday, I just got a nerve touched. Today is excellent though.
Good catch btw, I didn't think to correct her on that.

Well I just used a turkey baster and it removed some of the burgundy stuff off my rock. Not sure what it is.

If a turkey baster can't get the stuff off, then it can't be cyano...but it has bubbles...
Nothing I've heard of fits this description. Maybe it is two different organisms...like a sponge and cyano

No, you read what I wrote wrong. I said the turkey baster REMOVED
some of the burgundy stuff off the rock. Some of it would come off and some wouldnt.

Yes, I read that. I also read the word SOME. That my friend is why I am thinking it is two organisms.

It has my interest. The bubbles throw me off a bit. I am also thinking that maybe the bubbles came from your rock. When denitrification occurs from a type of benefitial bacteria inside the rock, nitrogenous bubbles form...but they form with cyano as well...
