A 50lb figi box will cost $99...then of course I have to pay shipping...so it will probably cost $150???? don't know yet still worth it
Yep. It also looks like you're going to have a pretty nice and deep sand bed. Still playing around with a stocklist? Thinking about a sump?

Yeah I want about a 3" sandbed and 40lbs should get me there
NO SUMP...there is nowhere to put one with this tank.
I have plenty of time to decide what to stock...

Yep. Have we explained to you the nitrogen cycle yet? You should start with something larger than a 29 if you can, nanos tend to be harder to maintain. You know to buy a commercial salt mix right? You can't use iodized salt.
That sounded funnier in my head, now it just looks stupid...
You could try a hob fuge.

i like the mantis shrimp idea for this tank but seems a little too expensive just for him (LOL)... so do a nano reef... is there any way you could plumb it into one of your bigger tanks then you wouldnt have to worry about the problems that come with nanos?!?!?

Nah, don't plumb it to another tank! Take on a challenge yeah!
Nanos are awesome!
Disclaimer: Big aggressive ray tanks are cooler.

I would wait on the sand...but it really isn't a huge deal either way. It will clear up a lot faster if you put the sand in first. A lot of people will put sand down and then a layer of plastic wrap, flip a bowl over and pour the water on top of that. It will make everything clear really fast. Since you are in no hurry though, it doesn't matter

I would recommend getting some egg crate though. That's a lot of rock to tank ratio compared to your other larger aggressive tanks I would think...the egg crate will distribute the weight better. A ratio of 10 live to 30 arg is good. Don't know about that type of sand mentioned though.

How about a Tampa Bay package. Just use their aquacultured live rock, sand and whatever you get on it. Some have done tanks like this and it is amazing the life that develops. Sponges, coral, inverts, gorgonians, all kinds of cool stuff. Ther are some nasty hitchers too, but so what a nice Florida biotope. Maybe a nice colorful damsel or two or three or four.

The bottom. You put the sand and rock on top of it to distribute the weight across the entire bottom rather than on specific points where the rock is
Never heard of that

I am going to put sand first...then rock cause I won't get that until the end of week,,,,well I still have to order it

Probably do that tomorrow

Yeah but did you read about it? I think it would be cool to setup a tank with only this stuff and some damsels. Real ocean biotope.
Besides if I had your money I would burn mine.......!!!!!!

Sounds like you're going to have some boring old LPS dominated 29 gallon reef tank.
Wait, why bother to set one up?
I'll trade you mine for your ray tank
