no i only use what came with the cube(bio balls, ceramic rings, sponge, and carbon). i used that live caribsea stuff and i think since yours is such a small grain that it is causing a big dust cloud. it should settle down after a while. i didnt rinse mine off, just took it out of the bag and added it in.
whisk, the algae is doing better... but there is still a lot left. most of it is one the sand which is easy to take off. the snails are doing a pretty good job on the rock. no pics right now. gonna wait to it looks better.

ok here are some updates: QT is cycling, the ammonia finally dropped to zero!!! and now my trites are slowly decreasing, and my trates are increasing. so this means i will prob get some clownfish in the next 1-2 weeks!!!!! my DT is doing better, i have turned and left the lights out for today and will do the same tomorrow, just trying to get the last of the algae out. there is practically none on the rock. just some on the sand and glass.

ok first pic is obviously a full tank pic, second is a pic of the sand that had a TON of algae on it(as shown in a previous pic) and now is very clean and bright white, third is a pic to show how purple my rock is getting. algae is about 90% gone so i am pretty happy! also found a dead hermit today :(

no seriously though, keep up the good work. never seen a ring of rocks before... Should be interesting once you get corals in there. The coralline growth looks good.
