He flushed a big Yellow Tang!

I have no idea. They told me they got rid of them, which they obviously did, I asked what they did with them and they said they were put to sleep. I asked why they didn't just find good homes for them or give them away, something, and they said they tried but nobody would take old cats. At that...

He flushed a big Yellow Tang!

Yea there was some crazy stuff going on over there, no doubt. But how can you take pets you've had for years and just have them killed? That is some seriously twisted behavior there. And so is flushing a living fish for that matter.

    Help! Stray Voltage

I did actually, I used my expensive multi-meter fist, which seems to work fine. The I broke out the cheeap-o VOM and got about the same thing. I'm going back tonight to see if I can figure it out, but if anyone has any ideas please bring them on.

    Help! Stray Voltage

I know and appreciate the help. The multimeter is set on AC voltage, the reading on the outlet from hot to ground (bottom round hole) is 120ish, no problem. Black probe in gound hole (bottom round hole) red probe in water, 32V. Like I said it's 0 now because we put in a grounding probe, but I'm...

He flushed a big Yellow Tang!

Wow some sad story. Check this out...We had these weird neighbors a while back that had three old house cats. Nice cats, friendly and all. Had them for years. They decide to buy new carpet and didn't want the cats messing it up, so they had them euthenized, all three of them. Perfectly healthy...

    Help! Stray Voltage

I'm testing it correctly, I've done it 100000000's of times on many tanks, the highest reading I've ever gotten is like 1V. I don't understand why anything that's plugged in gives this reading. Any insight would be appreciated.

    Help! Stray Voltage

I've read article after article on stray voltage and they all say the same thing....unplug one thing at a time, etc. I don't understand why anything I plug in gives me 25+V. Anyone?? And I do have my multimeter set correctly and the outlet voltage reads right also. I'm stuck here.

    Help! Stray Voltage

This one has me puzzled. A buddy of mine is having all kinds of trouble with his tank so I go by to see what's up. He's NOT running a grounding probe or using a GFCI outlet so we check for stray voltage and....32V! So we start unplugging stuff to see what's causing the problem. When everything...

    Colored sand?

We used to run a tank with black sand, but really didn't look as good as white to me. IMO, colored sand is like getting a car with a really crazy color, it's cool for a while then you hate it.

must kill the coral banded shrimp!

I spent weeks fishing a CBS out of my 75, twas an epic battle. I don't understand why there isn't a more clear warming about how agressive they are when you buy one, even here! To quote..."A longtime staple of the aquarium industry"....more like, let the buyer beware.

Why are they keep dropping dead?

If you're confident the water is fine, then I would blame the Tang. I recently had to get rid of one because of this exact reason, I couldn't add new fish he'd just chase them around until I had to come to the rescue. Besides, the tank is too small for him anyway, might as well get it over with.

Why are they keep dropping dead?

Is it possible the Tang is harrassing them causing stress? I'd think the first step would be for you to get some good test kits and make sure of what your water parameters are. I'd recommend Seachem or Salifert. Sorry about the dead fish.

    Calcium, Magnesium and Strotium

If you keep your alk and pH levels good, and do water changes, calcium should take care of itself unless you have a lot of coral. I'd only worry about mag if both alk and calcium were persistantly low. Do a good water change and see where you're at.

    Macroalgae for DT recommendations?

For my 55 g FOWLR DT I'm thinking about adding some macro and would appreciate suggestions. I have no herbivorous fish and only a few crabs. I'm leaning toward either Halimeda or a Shaving Bush. Any issue with either? Red Bone Grass looks cool, anyone have any experience with it? Thanks in advance!

All fish died in friends tank - only shirmp remains - is it safe to put the shrimp in my tank?

I wouldn't put him in my tank without a good month to 6 weeks in QT. It's just not worth the risk.
