technically, Birdy the salinity level does go down over time as the evaporation process isn't as cut and dry (excuse the pun) as "the salt stays, the water leaves". Over time, the salinity will go down with regular topoff. But I do agree in this situation, it's best to just change it right...

You can teach it to extend it's tenticles by taking some food and squeezing it in the water colum (release some food juice :)) this should trigger the brain to extend. Once it's done this - just feed your tank as normal and he should catch a few pieces... If he doesn't, oh well.. They can do...
