    Wave Maker and filter question

ther are a couple of stanpipes - another is called the Durso standpipe. As for the fish - of course you could put them in the tank when they are small but will have to get rid of them when they are young adult. If you try to keep them they will be overcrowded and you get problems. They live a...

    Cycled adding clean up questions

caulerpa is pretty hardy and can also become invasive - do some research on that as well - most "old timers" prefer chaeto as I said before the pods will be in the live sand and they too are pretty hardy and will survive fairly low temps.

The "Stockman Standpipe" is what you want to quiet your overflow.

    Wave Maker and filter question

Wow - now that's a loaded question there are soooooo many possibilities. All you can do is keep looking at pics etc and pick out the ones that you like best, then do compatibility check, and finally make sure that your tank size will accomodate them. If you overload your bio system you'll get...

    Cycled adding clean up questions

The copepods are very small in most cases and will look like little white dots that move. As your tank begins to mature you will probably begin to see little shrimp like guys crawling all over - those are the amphipods who will be part of the clean up crew and a food source for fish.

Shells will help - but they do not guarantee - the hermits actually pick out a shell that is visually appealing to them and then take it even if it means killing the current occupant.

    Wave Maker and filter question

The sound in your overflow is pretty typical and does not indicate the pump being too big for it. If the return pump is sucking air and blowing them into your tank then you've got a problem with outflow. There is a modification you can do to the overflow that will solve the problem and there are...

    Cycled adding clean up questions

If you bought live sand it should have a pod population already in it - you just need to give it time to multiply. You may also want to slow down on the additions - I don't think you need to add 1000 pods - 2 peppermint shrimp and 2 emeralds will be plenty - not a big fan myself of mixing the...

    Large aquarium considerations

    1. Correct - perpendicular is preferred 2. Your contractor will have shims on his truck or will know how to make them for you. It is simply a triangulated piece of wood for correcting levelling issues. 3. Not sure why you think you need something between the tank and stand - when tank is set up...

    CuC without crabs

"Vibex" is one specie of the nassarius - they are tropical and thus live in the warmer waters as opposed to the typical nassarius which are "ilynassa obsoleta" - they are atlantic specie that thrives in the cooler waters. In our tropical tanks they latter will not live as long nor be as...

Moving all thing to bigger home!!???

you will not need to let the new tank cycle, however, you should not immediately put the fish into the new tank until it has had ample time to settle. The relocating of substrate will stir up a lot of stuff and disturb the bacteria colonies enough so that they may not quickly process all of it...

    CuC without crabs

I would start out with 10 turbo astrea and 10 nassarius (vibex if you can find them) - you can add to that a little later but that's a reasonable start up for you.

don't rush it - the nitrates are deadly to inverts - so you need to wait until you get those levels down to at least 20. Do a water change and continue to monitor a bit longer - water change will remove a lot of the nitrates - then you'll probably see the diatom blooms start (brown algae) Are...
