    JEBO Skimmer

I heard that they had made some improvements on these and decided to try one out to see if they are worth stocking for resale..... I must say - they look nice ... Unfortunately they are still lacking in design and require a couple of little modifications to make them work reasonably well. It...

    Red stuff

how long has this tank been set up? What are your water parameters reading? If the red/purple stuff is not coming off of the rock then it may be coraline algae which is, for most, very desireable. It will continue to grow and eventuaaly start on the glass and everything else. If it is red slime...

    Some powerhead positioning questions...

Every tank is different because of the way things are set up in them so you'll need to experiment until you get it right. On one of mine I use the return from sump behind my rock work and two koralia 3 set up like i said in last post - i have good flow everywhere. It's just trial and error.

    Some powerhead positioning questions...

Those ph's will give you better than 17x flow at 1600gph - that is pretty decent - depends on how everything is set up in tank. Normally ph's are placed upper rear corners and aimed midway front and center so that their flows collide and create even better turbulance. You can try that and then...

Percula Clownfish - Constantly bites my hand...

that is pretty typical for clowns - they don't fear much of anything once they have chosen their territory. There are no obedience training tips I can give you on this

At the risk of sounding like I'm sucking up .... to anyone reading this I don't want them to think that Sep doesn't know his stuff - I have read countless posts by him and never questioned one before.

I question the post you made to the new member re: use of Fw equip in SW tank. it has always been my understanding that there are some parasites etc that can survive the transference long enough to possibly find a host where they may then cause problems. Is this not true? If you are certain of...

    New member here!

The frequency of testing will depend on the size of the tank - initially you will need to test it daily since an ammonia spike can be deadly. The larger the system the easier it is to maintain the water parameters. Once the tank is established you test once or twice a week (again depending on...

    The cycle

I would have to question your ammonia test. You can not get the trites without first getting the ammonia. Take a sample to your LFS and verify your test results. If the ammonia is 0, trites are 0 and trates are reasonably low then you still need to wait. Be patient. Give it at least a couple of...

    angel fish

sorry for the delayed response.... they are "reef safe with caution" - most of them usually are but occasionally you get one with attitude I have a flame in a reef that never bothers anything.

how long can i get away with this?

if you don't already have any I would recomend that you get a better clean up crew - turbo snails, nassarius, and cerith. turbos are best glass cleaners nassarius are best on substrate cerith are the best "grazers" A mix of all three of these does a world of good for any tank. HTH

how long can i get away with this?

it sounds to me that you may have either a build up of detritus or anaerobic issues (or both) when you do your water changes do a lite vacuum on the surface of the substrate (do not vacuum deep and disturb more than the top 1/4 inch or so) and look around to see if there are "dead" spots where...

how long can i get away with this?

also - how much substrate do you have and what kind? do you vacuum remove detritus when you do water changes? How much flow do you have - lack of flow can also create anaerobic areas that are nitrate factories.
