    Should i get wave makers?

You need powerheads to make the water movement. The wavemaker simply alternates the power to those powerheads causing a disturbed water flow (trying to emulate the ocean) They are good to have when you have lots of corals but if you are just starting out there are many other things you should...

    ? How to frag zoos

When they are small and attached to rock it can be a painstaking process. You'll need to carefully cut them away from the rock taking care not to cut the soft tissue of the zoas but instead try to scrape off the surface of the rock below them. Once that is done you dry the spot on the rock where...

    Cloudy Water from Sand

It should be ok - since it is new sand - if it were old sand it could pose a problem

    ID a critter

Nope - it's not a nudi - it is pretty flat, has about 50 little short legs, thought it was flatworm or poss isopod but can't find any pics that look loke it. it is big too - nearly 3/4" long and over 1/4" wide - just seems to hang out on rocks - appears not to like the light - haven't seen it...

    ID a critter

I can't get a pic so I'll be as descriptive as I can found this critter on a rock - looks like a flatworm - but it's greenish in color, oval in shape, over 1/2" in length, has a lot of little legs on the underside, soft bodied (no shell), and seems to be able to swim (using undulating motion)...

    Six -line Wrasse

I have a six line with a maroon clown and chromis (as well as a few other fish) in one of my tanks and have never had any problems - this tank is much larger than 14ga though (130ga)

Powder blue tang with a sailfin?

these two will normally get along even when not added at the same time - the tangs will fight with another recognizeable member of their own specie (meaning same body shape) As stated above though they, together, are going to outgrow that tank eventually - recomended tank size for one is 125ga...

Under Gravel Jets-- yea or nay???

They are not good for a marine tank - your benficial microorganisms colonize in the sand bed and will thrive when undisturbed.

    Adding sand

Adding sand is not a problem unless you have a well established system and add more than 1/4 - 1/2 inch at a time. It is best to add it incrementally so as not to bury and kill critters that may end up causing an ammonia spike. To avoid the sand storm just put the sand into small containers and...

    Worried need some help???

Hey big - how ya doin? You may want to consider replacing the gfci with "arc fault" circuit breakers - they perform basically the same task but are not as sensitive to spikes and surges. You would put standard receptacles in place of GFCI and replace the circuit breaker instead. They typically...

    Power Outage!!!!

Since you live in region prone to this type of weather related problem you may want to consider adding to your "emergency kit" a blanket and some duct tape so that you can insulate the tank and reduce heat loss - an extended power outage will prove catstrophic - this just buys you more time to...

    big naso little hippo?

That may or may not create an issue for you. Since the larger is the one being introduced it may work to your advantage (the other way around would be much less likely to work) and a 220 has ample room for both to coexist. There is no way to know for sure without trying - I can only recomend...

    Fish Growth Question

the growth rate varies from system to system - typically they will grow quickly in their first year (mother nature's way of insuring survival) and slower from that point on. 1st year could be up to 3 in growth after that as little as one inch per year.

Bleach Effect On Fish? Tank Crash!?!?

If there was any type of cleaning product - such as glass cleaner or bleach introduced to your system you will have very high phosphates - these are deadly to most and you should definitely test for that. Your ammonia is way too high at this time - possibly due to all the fish that have died or...

Congrats on the new family additions now you can begin to reschedule your life so that you can dedicate the seemingly mandatory 30hrs a week (or more) for staring at the tank.

    weird tracks...

It must have been the turbo snail - tip toeing - trying to sneak up on some algae Normally these little tracks are made by the smaller snails such as nassarius - if all you have is a large turbo then it's anyones guess - only way to know for sure is to stay up late and wait for Santa.

no QT needed - but make sure you give adequate acclimation time - inverts are far more sensitive than fish.
