how long can i get away with this?

Nitrates are high - indicating need for a water change and then find out why they are getting so high. How about the position of the tank? Is there a stronger natural light source on this one (such as being close to a window)? PH is low - should have that up to 8.1 - 8.3 IMO

    octopus!!!!

Nemo - run a search on octopus and you'll find the info you are looking for. Most of the specifics were listed in your previous thread. Good luck with this if you decide to go with it.

    angel fish

you say you want to add this one with your other fish? What do you have in there now. Assuming you can safely add an angel there are more than a dozen different kind of dwarf angels that are readily available. Any particular color or something you are looking for?

    Rainsford Goby Question

the goby should be ok with that stocklist and not pose a problem with the bioload either (assuming you have adequate filtration and cleanup crew)

how long can i get away with this?

Instead of tearing it all down - why not get to the source of the problem and let it go away naturally? Rebuilding the tank may not prevent this from starting up all over again. Let us know what your water parameters are, what your source for water is, and what equipment you have. It may be...

    Stocking List Concerning A Firefish

If you have good lighting and flow - the only anenome I would suggest would be a BTA or LTA. Pink tip will not host (be hosted) normally and is not very reef compatible.

    Stocking List Concerning A Firefish

Some might consider it to be overstocked - the kole tang is the only big guy in there so IMO I think you'd be fine and not have a problematic bioload - the snails and hermits basically don't even count towards bioload because their contribution is miniscule.

    octopus?????

they need a good sized tank dedicated to them - they are very difficult to keep - they are escape artists - they do not live very long. IMO they should not be tank captives.

    Stocking List Concerning A Firefish

One more thing... the chromis are schooling fish - but in small numbers they can be aggressive with one another - go with 5-6 of them

    Stocking List Concerning A Firefish

the firefish are very peaceful and pretty fish - they would be fine with everything on your list. If you get more than one they must be introduced to the tank at the same time. Mandarin requires a good pod population as that is the main food source for them and parameters must be good too. The...

Do I dare feed my fish some turkey today?

Geez lesley ... I thought that would have tickled a couple of funny bones. I know you wouldn't skip on the gravy

    Powerhead Q...

some would argue that both ways - again it will depend on the types of corals and their requirements - 20x is a good flow rate IMO - 27x is pretty strong

    Critique my stocking list, please

you can not keep two mandarin gobies together. Bet you didn't think just making up your wish list was going to be such a task did you? lol We've all gone thru it In my 125 I have a yellow tang, six line wrasse, flame angel, gold striped maroon clown, 3 blue/green chromis, 2 firefish, and...

    Powerhead Q...

That depends on the types of corals - it will not really "hurt" them but it will make them unhappy if the flow is too strong. In that case you could redirect the flow or make other changes like moving rocks and corals until you come up with the ideal placements. Typically PH's are not pointed at...

thinking of adding more snails and sand to established tank

Nassarius are excellent sand sifters. I would say its a good idea for you to add more. As far as vacuuming the substrate... it's ok to do the surface of the sand but not good to disturb the lower levels. Deep within the bed (as well as within live rock) anaerobic bacteria lives - these guys are...

    Lighting my First Reef Tank

You can make use of what you have for now and maybe upgrade later - but as for the lights... IMO you don't need MH's - there are very few specimens that require MH lighting so you can save $$ by getting a nice T5 fixture. That extra $$ can be put to far better use. Then you will also avoid the...

    Powerhead Q...

you could try one koralia 2 at one side of the tank and keep the maxi jets at the other end - the koralia impellor makes a wide area flow and also creates a fair amount of turbulence. That going up against the two maxi jets should give you plenty of flow in a 46. You may even put one maxi down...

Scolymia-Major change for the worse..Please help

although I have never kept any of these I do know that they are suited to cooler temps than you have stated - recomended temps are 72-78 deg all of the other param's you posted are good - but you did not post nitrates. Does it extend it's sweeper tent's at night and are you feeding it at night...

    Powerhead Q...

the answer depends on a few things: what do you keep in the tank? What size is it? Are you on a limited budget? I have recently switched one of my tanks to koralia and the effectiveness of these PH is impressive IMO.
