    Cleanup Crew...

I would probably avoid the blue legged hermits if possible because they can be mean sometimes. You only need 1 emerald crab as well. I would also recommend more than 5 nassarious snails, at least 10 or more.

    Brown stuff on sand

If you add a clean up crew, be wary I think your trigger will go after snails and hermits.

Is a 400 watt metal halide too much for a 36 gallon tank?

I run a 250 HQI on my 29 about a foot above the water, I dont have heat problems and the light permiates everywhere effectively. This would probably be a good choice for yours as well. You should be able to keep most corals under this intensity.

    crazy fish

My tomato clown does this as well........near the base of one of my rocks. He likes to sleep there at night, it sort of gives him extra protection. Just a thought.

Positive effects of adding more LR?

It also depends on the fish you have in there as well. If you have a dwarf angel or a type of fish that likes to swim alot, you might not want to fill it all the way up to the top and allow for some free swimming room.

    Tell Me about Emerald Crabs

I have some bubble algae starting and I want to get some emerald crabs. How many would I need in a 29 gal ? Will they have a problem with blue and red leg hermits?

'hairy' green algea in overflow box...

Its probably due to the high water flow. I wouldn't put a snail in there, but you could probably remove it manually with a sponge or something.

    upgrading lights

I run a 250 w HQI over my 29 and it has worked out great. I keep it a little higher off the water to reduce heat and so it does not burn or blind anything. PC actinic suppliments are probably a good idea, I am thinking about adding those myself. A 10k bulb will be whiter and give you the most...

    Glass Algae Problems

I currently have a bloom of both green and brown algae on my glass. Some of the green algae is growing in little tufts, which looks kinda cool but I definately want to get rid of it. I have added around 15 margarite snails, but they do not seem to be acclimating well (most keep flipping upside...

    firefish question

Its better to either keep 1 or 3 or more, 2 is usually not a good idea. And yes, as a precaution the top of your tank should be secured because they can jump out :nope:

    new fish, no fighting please

My experience with a skunk dottybank showed me that they can be agressive fish. Depending on the size of your tank, it may or may not give your firefish a hard time. Mine became a nuisance so I sold him back to my LFS. Definately cool looking fish, but they do have serious behavior drawbacks.
