    Coral

Oh wait I forgot to ask how long is your tank from side to side? Mine is 30 inches across, so the main reason I have 2 is so I can get an even amount of light from one side to the other. So if your tank is the traditional style I would recommend 2 for the best spread of light but if your tank is...

SPS bleaching but only where the light does not touch it. Worry or not?

So I got this orange digitata that has been in my tank for a few months and seems to be doing really well, but the other day I noticed that the back of it (where I've had it lean against some rock for stability) is completely bleached out. I'm guessing this is because the light cannot reach...

    Coral

I was interested in those LEDs in the beginning as well but was advised by people on this site that they are not very good actually. For your 29 gallon tank I highly recommend you take a look at Ecoexotic's Panorama LED moduels. I have 2 on my 40 gallon tank and all my corals are doing great...

What type of starfish and some info

I've seen this star in several different stores in my area... some stores say they are linkias and others say they are formorias. Either way they are reef safe. Good luck though, I purchased one as my first star when my tank was 5 months old and it died in 4 days :*( But I tried again when my...

    Impulse buying

Well said! Although just to clear things up... when I bought the mushroom in question, I didn't think that additional research was necessary since I thought I knew all there was about mushrooms... it just turned out that this particular mushroom has completely different needs than other...

So I'm an idiot and need advice lol.

Good lord man please take them back!!! Adding the fish to the tank before the cycle was complete is bad enough, but (unless I'm reading this wrong) 8 fish going into the tank at the same time will create a HUGE ammonia spike that will surely kill them all. At most you should be adding 1 or two...

Fordman1282 it sounds like you're jumping into this hobby blindly and as you said, without patience. This hobby is literally all about patience and without it, you will have a very hard time and probably lose a lot of money in the process. As others have said, its probably best if you took the...

    Yuma Mushroom Fail.

Hey all! Hope the new year is starting out good for ya! So over the holiday weekend I stop into a random LFS and saw a really beautiful neon orange Yuma mushroom with a pricetag of only $25. Normally these guys at other stores are priced around $85-$150 so I happily bought the little guy...

I think I got a sick starfish, what to do?

Eh sorry for the late reply, haven't been online for much of the holiday weekend. Anywho I made this post at work and by the time I got home the starfish was already dead so I suppose it starved since Ive never actually seen it eat anything I tried to target feed it with. As for the other...

I think I got a sick starfish, what to do?

Hey all, So yesterday I noticed one of my starfish was acting strange. In the morning I noticed as it was climbing up a wall it had one of its arms totally flopped over its back and it looked kind of knotted or twisted. When I came home from work that evening, I noticed that it was looking like...

    Star polyp attachment question

One of my first corals was a small colony of GPS. I put it on top of a rock I thought it looked good on and after about 3 weeks it naturally attached itself to the rock and began spreading.

    invertebrates

I'm a huge fan of arrow crabs. They look like creatures from outer space, always in sight, and are very animated. They love wandering the tank picking at rocks and the sand. Whenever company comes over the arrow crab is usually the first thing people notice.

Do I have room for a royal gramma?

I recently got a Royal Gramma for my 40 gallon (which also has a Firefish in it) and so far I'm not having any issues. I'd say go for it, Royal Grammas are beautiful fish IMO.

Favia puffing up, why does this happen?

Oh and BTW I think being puffed up is a good thing... its being shriveled up and not opening is what I'd worry about.

Favia puffing up, why does this happen?

I'm not sure about your coral specifically since I don't own one, but some of my corals do this as well from time to time. I think its just a normal part of their digestive process. Either that or maybe its trying to go to war with another coral if you put it really close to one?
