    Live Rock Hitchhikers??

I personally think its a rare occasion to get a mantis. You are going to cure or "quarantine" your rock anyway, you probably will know if there is some bad guy in there. Go ahead and buy wherever you think is a good deal.

    Cure LR????!!!!

you will find a ton of information if you search "Curing live rock" on this board, but here's the short answer: live rock is full of bacteria, tiny critters, and living things such as algae, etc. In the time it takes to travel from the ocean to your house, some of that stuff will suffer and...

    I got one!!

A good friend just got a new pup and she did something that I thought was smart--their vet was ok with them bringing in the dog like once a week at first to get weighed and oohed and aahed by the office staff--a nice introduction to the office, a chance to socialize with other dogs in the...

    Xenia running out my ears!

Our LFS (pretty reliable) said they don't travel well, so they only sell them when a customer brings in a bunch. They had some the last time we were there--they are sure cool looking.

    Fish & Mirrors

Most people believe that the fish will view his own reflection as an intruder and take an aggressive stance, thus stressing himself out. It is even suggested to paint the outside bottom of a quarantine tank so the fish don't see their reflection in the bottom of the tank. Hope this helps.

curing live rock in a rubbermaid

the last batch we cured in a spare 20 gal tank--we're thinking of using a large rubbermaid this time. Just wondering, what do you do about a heater? Isn't there a danger of melting the container? Never saw this addressed before, maybe I'm missing something obvious. Thanks! mom

    Please be honest with me...

If you're concerned about spending money, let me caution you...you think you want fish only. Wait until you start looking at reef tanks.....you might just decide you want to switch. Boy, will you be in for it then! live rock, corals, lighting, etc etc. I'm not trying to discourage you, but...

oncxe you have ich do you always have ich?

Did you treat the fish who showed signs of ich? Or did the signs just go away all by themselves--was your tank "fish-less" for about three weeks to prevent the cycle of ich from continuing? These are the only sure ways to know that your fish and tank are ich-free. Good for you for q-ing your new...

    Live Rock

Have you tried a loaded piece from a LFS to add to your tank to better "seed" your rock? Are you using good water movement? Calcium supplements? Hope this helps.

    pic of my tank!

Cypress, here is a question for you--I believe those lights COULD just sit on top of your tank, like with a glass top--what made you decide to use the "legs" to support your light? Just curious as we are thinking of upgrading lights and looking for several opinions and set-ups. Thanks

    what is ro/di water

If you don't feel ready to invest in a unit (up to $200) many LFS sell ro/di water. Lots of people test the water to be sure they are changing filters, etc. The water machines at wal-mart or some food stores where you fill up gallon jugs are usually ro/di units, too. Likewise, be sure the water...
