    Waaa

You don't need a needle, just a syringe--you may have one from a testing kit. And yes, you can use water, hot water.

    Boiling my LR

Draw up some very hot water in a syringe(no needle)--you may have one from a testing kit--and "inject" it into the center of the stuff. I don't know if this will work with the healthy growth you have, but that's what the boiling water method is all about. You must realize that you don't really...

    RO units?

Don't forget there is another way to hook up these puppies--for the terminally tool challenged--just get a screw-on (looks like a garden hose end) with a gate valve and screw that on to your laundry room sink. The gate valve allows you to have water run either in the sink or thru the system. The...

    Best Live Rock?

I thought due to conservation laws and such that all LR sold was aquacultured. If not "farmed," then at least stuff that has fallen off of reefs, etc. So it was my understanding that enything purchased from a reputable vendor was not reef-destructive. Pls correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

    LR Question

Here are some possibilities: the white spots on the LR could be some die-off of coralline. Did the LR come mail-order or just out of a tank at your LFS? If it came out of a tank right into your tank, there really shouldn't be any die-off. You could go into the tank with an old toothbrush and...

    Live Rock fromSWF.Com

I believe most people will tell you to keep your new rock in "isolation" in a rubbermaid or whatever for at least a week before putting it into your tank. There may be some die-off from transit, and you don't want the die-off to cause an ammonia spike in your tank. An extra heater (even a...

    clown fish pics

ElvisA--to answer your question, many fish will "fade" at night, its sort of a defense mechanism--so they aren't so noticeable to predators. If you notice your fish looking pale like that during the day, that's another story--could be a sign of stress or illness. At night, perfectly normal.

Live sand coming, I have a question.

I remember reading that someone put additional sand into their tank by pouring it down a funnel into a piece of pvc pipe so it wouldnt be so cloudy. Don't know that I'd go out and buy it, but if you might have a piece around, it might work. Good Luck.

    Live Rock fromSWF.Com

While the chances are slim, I guess you could get a mantis as a hitchhiker on any rock from any site or even from your LFS. However, the benefits of LR FAR outweigh the risk. Bristleworms are not necessarily a bad thing in your tank, just some ppl prefer not to have them or to have them in large...

    starting nano reef....water question

generally, nope. RO/DI will filter EVERYTHING out of the water, something like Brita will filter out chlorine but not much else. Remember, everybody says water quality must be pristine for a nano, so I would be extra careful with your water. good luck. There is a site just for nano tanks, I'm...

My Emerald crab double in size over the weekend *PIC*

Most folks just leave the exoskeleton in the tank and it either deteriorates or is eaten by other critters. Shouldn't cause any change in levels as it is not decomposing like a dead thing. Molting is a sign of a healthy animal.

    Live Rock fromSWF.Com

Don't worry, a 25# piece would be considered very "primo" and you would be unlikely to get one for a shipment. More likely you would see a variety of sizes, from meduim (one or two chunks) to what might be considered rubble. Even the rubble is useful, though, if only to toss in the sand bed as...

    agressive damsel. help please!

Yes, a reputable store will accept a return for credit--unfortunately, its usually pennies on the dollar. A better choice, IMO, than the great porcelain fishbowl.

How does everybody top off the water in their aquarium?

We top off in a 37 gal by just dumping in a gal of RO/DI that has been sitting at room temp. We used to be so careful and add just a little at a time, etc. but the clownfish always wants to play in the water as you pour it in--so now we just pour away. The fact that it has no salt does not...
