    Beginner start-up info

Are talking about converting a freshwater to salt? If so what size is the tank? What current filtration system to you have? To convert to salt you'll need a skimmer to add to the filtration. Also you'll need live rock, and preferably live sand. Also do you plan on keeping any corals? If so...

    My situation

Add another 2-3" of LS. From everything that I understand the minimum for a DSB to be effective is 4". I try for 5-6" on all of my tanks and I never have nitrate problems. Also couldn't really tell from the pic, but if you don't have a skimmer that would be a good addition as well. For a 135 a...

    55 freshwater set up

The same basic principles apply to a freshwater tank. They do seem to take a little longer to cycles though. You could try the shrimp method to get the cycle going. A wet/dry would be fine.

    them darn corals

I have heard of others putting the corals in a jar with some LR and eventually they will bond to something. Also another freind this weekend fragged his colt, and he used fishing line to tie the fraggs to LR. He said in a couple of weeks to cut the line, and remove it by then the coral should...

    What do you think?

Would a harlequin mix with the niger, porc, and red coriss? If so would a 240 be large enough? Also any suggestions on a wet/dry? Should I also add a refugium?

    O/T Scuba Divers?

I know there are several of you on the board. I'm planning a trip to Hawaii in August, and I'm looking for a good underwater camera under $500. Any recommendations on brands/models would be appreciated, as well as what brands/models to avoid.

    Ok, Lighting for FO

I don't think I would be to concerned about the day night cycle for a FO. I have mine set on timers to run 12 hrs. per day. You can go through the day/night cycle if you wish. It's probably less stress on the fish. Just depends on how much your willing to spend. hellolights seems to have a good...

    Green brittlestar...killer or scavenger?

Its also possible that something else killed the damsel and the brittle ate the remains. If your brittle had eaten the damsel he would look a little swollen in the middle. I feed my brittle 2-3 times a week. I can always tell when he's hungry because when I feed the other fish he'll come out...

    what to get?

Clowns do not need anemones. Most people recommend not even trying to keep them. Very few have success at keeping them for more than a year or two. These are one of the creatures that are best left in the sea. I personally do have one that hitchikes in on some LR, and none of my clowns even pay...

    what to get?

Taking the puffers back is a good idea. I would look at ading a pair of clowns. Perculas are fun to watch and are interesting. Blenny's can become aggressive so I would not recommend them in that size tank. Another choice would be a bengaii cardinal.

    Lion

Just give it a little time. You could do a search on this topic in the aggressive forum. There have been alot of suggestions on this matter there. My suggestion is to always keep a fish in q-tank until it has adapted and eating well. I kept my volitan in a 10 gallon tank, and it took him about 2...

    switching from a 38 to a 90

What are you going to have for filtration on the 90? My suggestion would be to setup the 90, and let it cycle as you would any other tank then slowly move the contents of the 38 over to the 90 after the cycle is completed. When it's time to move I would drain some of the water from the 38 into a...

    Ok, Lighting for FO

2 96watt PC would look good if you have only fish. You could probably even go with 2 55 watt. If you have LR then you may want a little more to get some good coraline growth.

    What do you think?

Grouperhead, Thanks for the info on the cortez. If they are not as aggressive than I will give it a try. The porc, the niger trigger, and red coris wrasse should be large enough not to fit into its mouth. Any other suggestions on inhabitants that would go well with this mix?

    What do you think?

Treble, Where is that topic. I did a search and didn't find it. Actually after reading a little more I think I may change to another eel. These sound as thought they are very aggressive. Maybe I'll look at a tesselata or aomething along that line. Still researching.

My anemone got stuck in my powerhead

You can buy pre filters for the powerheads. This will help prevent livestock from getting sucked into them.

    What do you think?

I should have mentioned that it is the red corris wrasse. I was thinking about a 200 gallon maybe a bit larger. Any suggestions as far as a replacement for the flounder? I'll also add the other stuff ie DSB, LR, and powerheads. Protein skimmer I think I'll go with a Berlin. What is a good...
