    aggressive water turn over

I would go with the Mag5. For an aggressive tank you'll want at least 6 times turnover rate, on average, or 450gph. It will also reduce the impact on the fish if you set up a dual-outlet return system, so it doesn't all flow in the same direction.

Anyone ever get attacked by their fish?

Other than the cleaner shrimp jumping on my arm to clean me(am I that dirty?), the only time I have actually been injured by one of my fish was when I stuck MYSELF on my volitans lion's dorsal fins while moving rock in the tank. Now, as for other interesting animals, I had one of my 2 3-foot...

Porcupine Puffer or Dwarf Fuzzy lion

A puffer will eat any shrimp or crabs it can get ahold of, so I would suggest a lion. Although, a puffer has MUCH more personality than a lion.

    Puffer in a community tank?

Lions and puffers really don't mix, as the puffer will nip the lions fins.

    2 questions

There are a few methods for dealing with hair algaeand which method will be most desireable will depend on your setup. If you have a large tank with lots of rock, several different species of fish will solve your problem, including angels, tangs, lawnmower blennies, etc. If you have a small...

    Fish for invert based tank

As far as fish go, you are going to be EXTREMELY limited on selection and number for a 15gal tank. If you get a percula, only 1, as they get just over 3" and will place a heavy burden on your biofilter. Same for the sixline wrasse. If you get one of these 3" fish, that will be the only fish you...

    square pink

I don't see any problem with that. They require a large tank(70gal), but you should already have a large tank if you have a tang, so this should not be a problem. If you can, get a juvenile or a female, as they acclimate better. HTH

    sand activator

Well, if by "activator" you mean bacteria culturing, you really don't need to buy bacteria, it would not help your sand bed colonize any faster than it already is. Nitrifying bacteria multiply at a very fast rate if there are dissolved organics for it to feed on. At two months old, your sand bed...

    acclimating snails

Snails are sensitive to temp and pH shifts, so be careful that the temp and pH are the same, and you should not have a problem. I personally drip-acclimate EVERYTHING I get, I pay too dang much for stuff to be taking any unnecessary risks. It's not that much work, anyways.

    black mollies

I am about to begin this with some dalmation mollies, I'll let you know how it goes once I have fully acclimated them to slatwater. I will be using them as supplement food for my lions and leaf fish.

    Aggressive Lawnmower Blenny?

Yes, lawnmower blennies can be very aggressive sometimes. They will often not tolerate other blennies, and if not provided with adequate food will even eat the slime coating from other fish. I have a large lawnmower that killed a blue hippo tang in a display tank of an LFS from a neighboring city.

    Crisis Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 90gal Oceanic with oak stand and canopy that I love. The glass is very thick. The stand has an elevated trim that covers the bottom of the glass(to hide the plastic frame of the tank) and the canopy has matching trim. It is a very nice setup, and only 48" wide, 50" with the trim of the...

Cracked glass tank - HELP FIX!!

As I said, the effort may be too much for suh a cheap tank. The only time I would suggest it is if the tank in question is for a specific purpose or is hard to extract from it's current location. I had a crack in one of my tanks in my MaRS retail multi-tank setup that I had to use this method...

    Cycled already?!?!?

With a 4" DSB, you will want to wait until ALL readings come out 0, amm., nitrite, and nitrate. The only level that is acceptable to a certain extent is nitrate. If you are showing any ammonia or nitrite, and you have not added anything recently(week for fish, 2 weeks for rock), then your cycle...

    Puffer in a community tank?

Puffers will not usually mess with the hermits, but they will eat snails if they can get them, so I would not suggest keeping them with snails. They will usually not mess with other fish, unless they have long fins such as lions, or if they are conspecifics(other puffers). HTH

Cracked glass tank - HELP FIX!!

Being that it is only a 10gal, it will not have very much water pressure. Go to a glass store and have them cut you a piece of glass just small enough to cover the entire back glass(the one that is cracked) up to the edges of the silicone joints. Smooth a layer of silicone sealant across the...

    Experience with Hamilton VHO Systems?

I have used the 48" 220-watt Hamilton VHO system before and was very pleased with it. It runs cool and puts out very good light with 1 Actinic and 1 AquaSun. The only thing I wasn't too excited about is the fact that the on/off button is on the ballast, which means if you don't use a timer you...
