    coral beauty vs. clams

Coral Beauty, as most angelfishes, will very often nip clam mantles. As delicate as clams are, you do not want ANY possible damage to it, as it will likely cause it to stress and die. I would not suggest keeping any angel with any clam. HTH

    Are there any...?

Mushrooms, polyps, and possibly a low-light softie, although I would only go with the shrooms and polyps. HTH

    help me pick a skimmer

If you are willing to spend that much, I would suggest a Kent Marine Nautilus. It is large, and will have to go under your tank, but it is a workhorse. HTH

    Lunare Wrasse for sale

Yes, it would be fine. In fact, it had been in my 200gal grouper tank until I added an eel and a volitans lion, and he would steal the live ghost shrimp I was feeding them, and that is why I need to find him a good home. I would rather have the others eat well and find him a new home, than get...

Looking for a 36" Reg Florescent Light strip

I have a 36" twin-tube florescent I will part with for $65+shipping. Or, a 36" single tube with one 24" bulb I would sell for $30+shipping. Let me know if interested.

    Reef Lighting?

If you want to keep only bubbletips, that lighting would be fine. However, most other anemones will require more lighting to thrive. ALL anemones also require some meaty food to supplement the energy they get from their photosynthetic algae. As for the JBJs, JBJ is an excellent brand, and...

ack! i think my peppermints ate my maxima

The only crustacean that I have found to be predatory against clams is the Arrow crab, which I have witnessed myself(evil damned crab ate 3 of my healthy, new clams). I have seen NUMEROUS tanks with clams and shrimp coexisting without any problems. I am leaning towards the clams having already...

Can You Tell Me Why Sharks

If it isn't going to be used, how difficult would it be to simply remove it from the layout? I can see some valid reasons for not using it, but then again, some of the reasons I've seen for why it isn't are rather unrelated. True, focus should be on the BB, but a means of PM would be SO much...

    Free caulerpa for me?

I, also, would be very appreciative of some caulerpa for my new refugium. I have asked a few individuals here in the forums, but have yet to have any response from any of them. If anyone would be willing to send me some, please e-mail me at shadow6_78@hotmail.com Thanks in advance.

    Reef Lighting question?

I agree with Tucker. An IceCap 660 ballast running 4 48" URI bulbs at 110watts each will give you enough light to keep just about anything you want, and you can place everything in your canopy any way you wish. It will also run very efficient and much cooler than MH lighting. HTH

    Lunare Wrasse for sale

I will eliminate the box charge, and make it $30 + shipping. This is the same price that most online retailers charge for a specimen 2-3 inches shorter. This is a great fish for an aggressive setup.

a little help with pump selection for a sump...

If you are going with internal pump, I would go with a MagDrive MD5. With that head pressure, it would give you a little over 10 times turnover rate. For external, I would suggest an Iwaki WMD-20RLT. At that head pressure, it will give you 450 gph, again a bit over 10 times turnover rate...

Did I buy the right pre-conditioner and paints? PICS

I don't see any problems with the paints you selected. The Krylon High-Temp will be a good paint for the inside, as it will not peel or crack due to the high temperature from the lights. Just make sure you give the canopy a good 2 or 3 days to dry before using it on your tank. Good luck. :)

    power head question

Musipilot, would you send me some if I paid shipping? I'm setting up a new refugium for my 200gal and I'm hoping to get some growing soon. My tangs won't take the Seaweed Selects, and I really need to get some veggies in them. I'm hoping they'll take the caulerpa. Going to try nori until I get...

    Power Head

No problem, Legion, glad I can help. :) Sweettooth, what model is your Whisper? I need to know the flowrate of the filter before I can determine how much additional water flow you will need. There are several different models of Whisper, but I don't believe any of them will provide enough...

    If you had........

I agree with Rye, a newly established tank is nearly sterile, the diatom bloom will be eaten almost immediately, as well as the algae, and then you will end up with lots of dead cleanup crew if you do not feed them. I would get one or two small fish you will want to keep permanently, such as a...

    YES Soda water does work!

Sweettooth, the water you use is plain carbonated water, not actual flavored sodas. The clear, unflavored carbonated water irritates the mantis enough for it to attempt to find a new hiding place. You take the rock out, place in a 5-gallon bucket, and use a turkey baster to squirt water into the...

    How many Feather Dusters?

The milky substance is likely the mucus they use to build new tubes, as sistrMary said. It is harmless to the rest of the tank. They secrete it around the tube and it softens the tube up, allowing them to stretch it, then it solidifies and the tube is larger than it started as,. allowing the...
