Water change advice: Does this sound right?

Trust us,,,Your salinity is fine...This is not what is stressing the tang,,If anything it is that ammonia..You need to try and figure out where that(ammo) is comming from.Asbuzz said"anything but ZERO is too much".. Have you added anything new to the tank recently??? Has anything diedin the past...

    Live Rock?

Reef lighting is not actually needed to keeplive rock.Although it does help. For a 55,you should have between 40-50lbs of live rock. This can be added allat one time,or a little bit(5-7lbs) per week till you have what you want...If added all at once, you may encounter a recycle in your tank.This...

    Hex usage

The brine would be a MESS in that tank. Why not get it going,,,put a few lbs of rock and sand out of your home tank in it.Then add a small clow or two...This would be easy to care for and should work fine..Water changes also should be a breeze.Just bring in a gallon of water from your home tank...

Why didn't God make a saltwater plecostomus?

I have often wondered if it would be possible to slowly acclimate a placo to salt...If so,it sure would be a ground breaking addition to cleanup crews..You could also make ALOT of money till people figure out how it is done...Maybe I'll try it sometime...

You really should hold off on doing anything at all(including water changes) to the tank till the cycle is compleatly done. That is till the ammo and nitrites have spiked and both have been zero for a couple weeks.Even then a water change is not reallneeded till the nitrates rise above...

    Leveling my tank

If it is an iron stand with four legs,,Then YES you can just shim under the two legs at the low end... If you have a cabinet style stand it is a bit more complicated. You must shim it all the way across the front and back of the tank so you don't cause the stand to sag in the center...This...

    Will this work?

It's not actually the water that needs to cycle. It's the new substrate and the filter media. That is where the bacteria lives that needs to be established. And why a tank cycles.. You would be better off if you could add some of the sand and rock from the other established tank as well as the...
