Sorry birmingham, I just saw it was your first post. Welcome to the board!

    RO/DI Unit Needed

That's the one I have, and it seems to work fine. I rigged it with new tubing to reach the tank/water source/drain. One thing I learned (having never had a RO/DI unit before) is that it does not work to full capacity at the beginning. I've run it about four days now and it's creating 40 gpd.

Thanks for the heads-up Mandy. I really appreciate what you're doing, but I don't want to bother a person that is busy defending our country. I'm sure other people on the board will help, and I'll start a new thread. Thanks again, I hope gator returns soon and in great health.

    Macroalgae

OK, not so happy to hear about tangs/angels not working with shaving brush. How will reef inhabitants fare with the following: 1) Hawaiian-red sea fern 2) money plant 3) grape caulerpa ? Also, how do the above plants deal with Nitrates? Keep in mind I'd like to have them in the main tank...

    Macroalgae

Thanks birdy & goldrush. I checked out the shaving brush and really like the idea of having it in the main tank. How will it fare with cleanup crews/clams? You guys definately gave me something to think about/research. Thanks alot!:)

This weekend I bought 5 2600 MCD blue LEDs. They're rated 20 - 30 mA. I also bought a 4.5 V power supply which produces 700 mA. Then I bought a 440 Ohm resistor. I put the LEDs in parallel, and the resistor on the positive wire of the system. The LEDs work, but they're dim. I took the...

    Macroalgae

Can you elaborate more on growing macroalgae in the main tank? I didn't realize that was an option, and my sump isn't big enough to add a refugium option. Thanks.

    Denitrifying !!!

There's one at my LFS. I'm going there tonight. I'll check it out and let everyone know over the weekend.

    sorry, had to do it!

If that were on SWF would it be under Specials, dry goods, or U-build it?:) Forget it, I'll go to Home Depot and build from scratch like the rest of my tank.;)

    SWF LR pic.s

At the suggestion of nbyrne I'm reposting this here in conjunction with the new hobbyist board: [hr] I finalizing my choice on purchasing LR. Since this board is so helpful I'm 95% sure I'm going to buy it from here. I was just wondering if anyone has any pic.s of SWF LR. If not can anyone...

    SWF LR pics?

I finalizing my choice on purchasing LR. Since this board is so helpful I'm 95% sure I'm going to buy it from here. I was just wondering if anyone has any pic.s of SWF LR. If not can anyone say weather the SWF LR has larger pieces of smaller pieces. I really don't want to have to build a...

    Saw a Gorgeous Tank

It depends on what you're going to do with it, and your experience level. IMO a rectangular is better. Even though I like the looks of a corner, it's generally easier to light a rectangular tank for reefs, and fish like to have a long "run" to swim in. Good luck!

    Questions???

Welcome to the board!:) I don't know of any LFS in Mass., but I can answer your LR question. Yes, in time your LR will seed your regular sand into live sand. Just keep in mind that the sand you use should not contain any silicates. Best of luck with your tank. Post some size/space/budget...

how much water is really in your tank????

You can't use the general rule you stated. Just bacause you had 65 gal.s in your tank and added 110lbs. of LR, that does not mean you took out 11 gal.s. You have to calculate the water displacement of each rock. I know not easy. You would also have to calculate the displacement due to you...

    Cloudy Water

How did you add your SD? I made the mistake of just dumping it in. It's been exactly one week this afternoon, and I still have a day or two before it will be clear. The only good thing on your side - is if you've cycled already, I've read that the bacteria will form a layer around the...

    more on cycling

If I have a tank with water & sand in it, but no LR or LS.... And I know I'll be getting LR in about two weeks or so.... Can I put a shrimp or two in to start cycling, then put the LR in whenever I get it, even if it's in the middle of the cycle? (For argument's sake lets say it's cured LR.)...

    R/O h20

My RO/DI wastes about 4times the water it cleans. After reading posts, the long term costs seem to be cheaper when buying your own system. I wonder if you could rig the waste water to be re-pressurized by say an electric air pump(like you fill car tires with) and put the waste water through...

Thanks for the pic. The Fla. stuff looks awesome! Love the colors.

    Fiji or Florida

How was the density? Also, did the Fla. rock look like it was cut out. That is, was it squared off or did it actually look non-symmetrical and realistic?
