    Lighting / Ballasts???

My ballasts are playing games with me.. I currently have "Star" ballasts. I'm looking at the Icecap ballasts: I'm trying to understand the concept of fluorescents vs. ballasts. How many fluorescents can I run off a single Icecap 660? Or even a 430? I know the 660 is capable of 440W and the 430...

Controversal... QT not effective if not doing hypo or copper?

Ok, this may may be controversial.... What's the use of QT'ing a fish for more than a week if he's NOT showing any signs of disease, AND you're not doing hypo or copper treatments? Theoretically, ICH could lie in dormant stages with no visible signs, right? So if the tank is not being treated...

Ich treatment... hypo not an option... Beth? someome?

Well.. I cleaned my swing arm as I mentioned with vinegar... and the results: The swingarm is worse off now. Before I was getting similar results with the swingarm vs the glass. Before: Swingarm: 1.022 glass: 1.020 After cleaning: Swingarm: 1.024 glass: 1.020 How can that be???

Ich treatment... hypo not an option... Beth? someome?

When you say glass hydrometer, do you mean the floating glass ones? I heard the opposite regarding the glass floating hydrometers.. whereas they were the bad ones.. I'll take a reading from both tomorrow morning and see how they look. In the mean time, I let the swing arm sit with vinegar...

How often to feed fish in QT?

Should feeding regiments be different for fish that are being QT'd? Beth, currently as you know, I'm QT'ing ocellaris clowns. I've been feeding minimal amounts once daily. Is this enough / too much??

Ich treatment... hypo not an option... Beth? someome?

Well, the new "replacement" clown came from the same tank that the original clowns came from. My LFS originally had 4 that came in that day, of which I took 2 originally. 2 were still left when they gave me my replacement. So, essentially, the fish would already have been exposed in the first...

Ich treatment... hypo not an option... Beth? someome?

My LFS was nice enough to replace my dead clownfish without asking... Nice huh? I'm back to 2 clowns now. Although the original clown that I thought had ICH is not eating. Breathing seems to be normal, no scratching behavior at all either. I fed them both enriched frozen brine this morning, and...

Ich treatment... hypo not an option... Beth? someome?

The screen had fallen off. I had moved the powerhead a couple of weeks before, and I had not seen the screen fall.. In any case, the signs of ich that I had seen have disappeared since I started using Ecolibrium. I also got Coppersafe, which I havn't used yet since the Ecolibrium seemed to be...

Ich treatment... hypo not an option... Beth? someome?

Hi Terry, Well, since I just got him, the history is VERY brief. I lost one of the 2 clowns I purchased overnight as he got sucked into a powerhead. As for the other one, I just noticed that he had a sprinkling of white spots on him the next morning, where he hadn't the night before. tank...

Ich treatment... hypo not an option... Beth? someome?

Hey everyone. I got to Ocellaris clowns 2 days ago. acclimated them over 3 hours in the dark into my QT tank. left lights off for 24 hours afterwards. This morning I found 1 clown sucked into the powerhead (dead), and the other has very slight signs of ich.. (a few spots here and there)... I...

Thought I'd share... Closeup of my Longnose Hawk

Mine has NEVER been agressive. And he lives with 2 tangs, and a cleaner shrimp of all things. Snails and Hermits are also safe as well.

    Garlic Extract... Kyolic Powder....

The only garlic extract I've been able to locate is in the powder format (kyolic). I've heard people say this one is ok as well. How would one use this? I doubt you can put the powder directly on the fish food? Or can you?

    staghorn hermit crabs

An LFS I know used them to rid his tank of Bubble Algae (Valonia). Although, after the experience I'va had with hermits eating my snails for their shells, I decided not to get one.

    Biozyme??

I tried it on my QT tank originally to get it through the cycle faster.... or so I thought. It didn't do anything for my cycle. My cycle still took a full 30 days, including using a cocktail shrimp to jumpstart the cycle. All that biozyme stuff did is leave a powder residue on the bottom of the...

Midas Blennie found dead this morning in QT.

Ammonia was 0 before he died. Like I had mentioned in the post, the ammonia levels were there because of the dead fish who had been dead for what seems the entire night. pH is 8.0 ..... :(

Midas Blennie found dead this morning in QT.

I had him for only 9 days. He was in QT as I had mentioned. He was eating, and was very active, and sociable. Water levels were normal. He was eating small amounts of Formula2, Enriched Brine, and went crazy for Nutrifin flake food. It was just a freak death I guess :( As for the QT tank, it...
