Is this a newly cycled tank? If so, I've always heard/recommended to only add a few cleaners when the ammonia and nitrites are zero. If a few cleaners do fine, add a few more a week later. Doing a water change at the end of your cycle will help to drop the nitrate level.

Can you post a pic of yours? I've got a frag with some vibrant red mushrooms. It definitely adds color to the tank.

I honestly don't know the exact number of cleaners I have since the snails need to be replaced periodically, but in my 55 I've got about 15 snails and 5-10 hermits of various sizes.
