    cleanup crew and nitrates

Is this a newly cycled tank? If so, I've always heard/recommended to only add a few cleaners when the ammonia and nitrites are zero. If a few cleaners do fine, add a few more a week later. Doing a water change at the end of your cycle will help to drop the nitrate level.

Can you post a pic of yours? I've got a frag with some vibrant red mushrooms. It definitely adds color to the tank.

Any Good Book Suggestion for Newbie setting up?

Read through as many old threads on here as you can. This website taught me to the most. The best book I read was the Conscientious Marine Aquarist (sp?) by Fenner. Welcome to the hobby!

    fish or coral

If your cycle is complete, you can certainly start to add inhabitants. Originally posted by SMARTbomb If coral, how many at a time? I asked a similar question when starting my conversion to a reef tank. Apparently cost is the only real factor here as corals have very little bioload...

    Coralline

Do you have zero corraline or you are just hoping to increase the amount you have? I tried a suggestion posted on another thread here and have already seen some increase in my corraline. Get a brand new soft bristle toothbrush and gently brush the existing corraline. It will release spores...

    Cannister/Skimmer?

Zenway9's idea isn't bad, but as he said it all can vary from tank to tank. I've been thinking of removing my canister and running my tank "filterless" with only my powerheads and skimmer. I too have heard of canister filters being nitrate producers, but my guess would be it is an issue for...

    Cannister/Skimmer?

It would probably depend on what you have in your tank and what your feeding habits are. If you are running a reef tank and you don't overfeed, you could get away without the mechanical filtration of the Fluval. If you have messy eaters (puffers, lions, etc) and you overfeed sometimes, I'd...

    ideas for 29g fowlr setup

If he did a valentini he couldn't really add much more in a 29. The only lionfish I can think of that doesn't get too big is the Fu Manchu. Its kind of personal preference for what he'd like to keep. Take him to your LFS or show him the fish sold here. Since you have experience make sure to...

I honestly don't know the exact number of cleaners I have since the snails need to be replaced periodically, but in my 55 I've got about 15 snails and 5-10 hermits of various sizes.
